Why I am called "Seedsower"
I updated this with new photos,
this is what I do.Seed sowing season is here!
This is my seed sowing area
We sow the seeds in plug trays
Each plug tray has 512 little cells that are full of soil, one cell for each seed.
To sow the seeds we use a hand held seeder
made by the Berry Seeder Company
The seeder consists of a metal plate with 512 holes in it (to match the plug trays)
attached to a transparent plastic box that hooks up to a small vacuum cleaner.
There are several different plates that we use according to the size holes
needed for the seeds being sown. Some seeds are very small like a pinpoint.
These are Lobelia seeds
.
Sometimes small seeds are pelleted
We can handle them better because we can actually see them on the seeder.
Today I sowed Broccoli seeds
I put the seeds onto the plate
turn on the vacuum and shuffle the seeds around a bit
which pulls the seeds onto the holes and holds them in place.
I dump off any extra seeds.
Then I flip the seeder over onto the top of plug tray
I turn off the vacuum and the seeds fall onto the tray, one in each section.
If they are large seeds I need to cover them with vermiculite,
I found that an old microwave popcorn popper works really well for this job.
Vermiculite is highly absorbent and helps to hold the moisture in.
Seeds that are too large for the seeder are put into the plug trays by hand.
Some sown by hand are Peanuts,Nasturtium,and Hyacinth Beans ,
which I think look like little whoopie pies!
NOTE: Salvia seeds remind me of mouse shit
and Calendula seeds look like slugs
We put the seed trays on a heated table, keep them watered
and they grow into seedlings.
These are seedlings ready to be transplanted 
We will transplant them into flats that hold 12/4pks
The 4 pks can be removed individually from the flats
and are called Market Packs.

Ah! Gotta say I'm jealous of the seed sowing! It's been rainy and chilly here today so no gardening for me! However I did go get some lily and hosta bulbs & hopefully I can get those in the ground tomorrow!

I think that sowing the seeds can be the most fun. I love the way the earth smells and when those seeds first start forcing through the soil its like magic!!!

WOW! What a handy little device! Being able to sow 512 seeds at once with a little bit of set up is pretty cool. Of course, do you have to put the dirt for the seeds to drop into in 512 little compartments? That could get pretty tedious! Well, I think the seeds must like you, because they grow into such beautiful plants!
That is an awesome little machine. One more question...Who counts the 512 seeds exactly. Or do you measure them by the ounces or something?

I was going to say, I used to start seeds early indoors... But all too often I failed to give them the proper care, so now I wait untill the soil is bare and plant the things that will produce in the growing season God provides... But I still buy a few starter plants each year, from the local farm market. The owner and I were childhood friends, and I like to support his store.

I want to try! I've thought about looking into gardening in my basement with greenhouse lamps. Someone told me you could do that. I just love giving things away and flowers and vegetables are something that people LIKE getting. I'm always separating my flowers and sharing them. Eventually when we can build our house I want it to have a solarium, greenhouse type of thing and I will start my annuals inside.
It looks so fun! Maybe not for you, but I've always enjoyed planting things. It's so rewarding. I started planting a garden at home because we had too many plants at school and I couldn't bare to see anything go to waste.

its amazing what hopes of spring we have- so at this time pretty much Chinese new year- its of course not our here and they are just a bit further south so they start earlier but I'm not surprised this is the time of spring.... to plan ahead. to bring it on.

The seeder looks like a nice tool. Too bad I wouldn't have enough room to take much advantage of it. On the other hand, I do like to minimize all tasks as much as possible.
Wow that's some fancy stuff. I guess when you're planting a lot of seeds that would make it easier. My mom likes to garden and sometimes I help her, but we always planted seeds by hand. Still, our garden isn't half the size of that greenhouse you showed before.
I tried growing my own lavender last year. The sprouts got about four inches tall, and they looked like they were doing well. Then I went out one day and they were all yellow and wilted.

@MotherHen1966 - I did it by hand at first too but we bought this about 10 yrs ago. it is better because it is faster and the roots are not pulled apart and disturbed during transplanting.

I was thinking of your primrose plants yesterday. I am going to get some this week to plant. I spent all weekend clearing beds, and have about 80 seedlings sprouted to put in them, including seeds from the pepper plants I grew last year.
