  • The Gifts of the Xangans:Suzsea

A few years ago I posted a Christmas story
and someone on Xanga responded with the sweetest gift.

When I was about 9 our neighbor worked at Pepperidge Farm,
at Christmas they gave my sister and I each a present.
My sister opened hers, it was a box of Pepperidge Farm Cookies, she ate them
and they wanted me to open mine but I wanted to wait til Christmas
so I put my present under the tree.
My Brothers carefully opened them up, ate them, taped it back up
and put it back under the tree.
I remember being so pleased for waiting to open that gift only to find it empty!
That's the kinds of things brothers do and it is funny now
    but I cried back then.

A few weeks after posting that a package came in the mail for me
    from
    @suzsea.

Inside was a box of Pepperidge Farm Cookies

    fabric 157

    That was the sweetest gift!

This gift made me cry too and still does as I am writing this
and I had to wonder why.

All anyone said to me about that back then was
"Well, you should have eaten them when you had the chance".
That is when I gave up on the joy of waiting til Christmas to open a present.
but also I think that's when I began my journey into hording food
and eating more than I need so I would have it.
We never know how what we say will effect others.

Suzsea's gift was like healing balm over an old wound.
    The effects of her
kindness will always be a sweet memory.
