Photo Challenge: Tell a Story
The McIlvain Pavilion was built in 1892 on Neversink Mt in Reading PA
and on the east side of the city and overlooks the city.
It was built in honor of William McIlvain,
an avid hiker who often stopped to rest at that spot on the mountain.
A plaque affixed to one of the walls pays homage to its history.
Over the years, the brownstone structure became known as the Witch's Hat
because of its cone-shaped roof. Info Source

Gorgeous photos.
Great story. Loved this! :)
Oh shoot - I forgot to put one together! I put up a post with photos that would have worked about the same time you posted the challenge. I'll see what I can do about putting those photos together for this. Gah! I'm getting forgetful!
@saintvi - I saw there is a cache by the pavilion!
Makes me want to linger before I take the rest of the trail. Esp love that sixth shot.
My Tell a Story is posted, thanks for the challenge Beth. You make things fun~
@seedsower - Did you find the cache and sign the log? One of my travel bugs I thought was lost is now in a cache near Brickerville. My photo story is posted - LINK
@saintvi - Maybe I will take the kids up there to do that tomorrow. You need to send me my GC info ,lol
Wow! I love this place! The photos are wonderful!
@seedsower - Did you ever even make an account?
I thought you did for the one I found in the cemetery? I do not remember!
Oh! I have a recent and frequent story. The pictures are low res cell photo pics. The story is boring. But it repeats itself frequently - and probably more true than I would like to admit! HA!
you rock
I've been too depressed by a week of freezing rain to take pictures.
That pavilion reminds me: isn't there a pagoda up on the mountain? It's been a while, but I remember a structure larger than the McIlwane.
Cache in Brickerville? Now there's one I could find with my eyes closed, I know every square inch of the joint.
That is too cool.... especially the black and white shots. I wouldn't be surprised if a few sacrifices had been performed there....My latest blog has a lot of pictures... though it isn't just them telling a story. ;)
@jsolberg - East Reading is a narrow pass between two mountains, Mt Penn and Neversink Mt The pagoda is on Mt Penn and the Pavilion on Neversink. Perkiomen Ave runs right down the middle of the pass with number streets running from Mt to Mt across the pass. In THIS pic off to the right you can see the pagoda on the mountain across the city.
That is a really awesome looking place. I wouldn't mind visiting it, it looks like it has a lot of atmosphere.
That place looks amazing...Love your photos.
@seedsower - Thanks, that clears in up. (I don't like to worry that maybe I hallucinated pagodas, ha.)
This is an interesting place. Your photos are beautiful!
Great shots - lovely location!
Fabulous story and photos!! Thanks for sharing the intrigue and beauty.
Wow, that's gorgeous!
the b/w shots are amazing!!
