Putting on a Homecoming
We live in the farmhouse where my husband and his family grew up.
We are having a homecoming for his siblings,
their children and grand children.
Ninety people are expected for the day, we will take a wagon ride to the creek,
play in the creek and eat watermelon.
Do the things with the grand kids
that the grand parents did when they were kids on the farm.
We will take lots of pictures all day longand have a slide show in the evening.I did not do much to the downstairs after Ida died,
the kitchen looks the same
We put tables in the living room to make it like a cafe
so we can host the employee dinners and family get togethers.I wanted to keep it as it was for as long as I could,
I want it to always feel like home when they walk in.

That's great
I love how it looks like in the last picture. Great job
I'm so glad you've kept it the same. I suppose I'm very sentimental in that respect. Oh, I'm so going to crash your reunion....I'll just claim I'm the sister of an uncle's cousin's friend.
That's wonderful! It sounds like a lot of work; I hope you have good help!
I love that you're making it home-y and comforting for his family. I love the nostalgic aspect of things.
@lanney - A few of us planned it and divided the responsibilities.
That's good. My Gma has just an evening party every Fall for about that many and it is exhausting.
Love that!! I have vague memories of being there long, long ago. Really enjoyed your inlaws.
That kitchen and large fireplace are awesome.
What a wonderful home!
That is wonderful. Like a tradition then? Wow, that kitchen does look like its from the 50s.
ittakes lotsa thinking ahead to keep a fire withing the best of the past - hat's off to ya. oh and as always gotta be a bit opposite as you look to host a homecoming I'm cooking up a sendoff.
Looking at this photographs makes me feel like I went back in time a bit, in a good way. It's as if the character of the house has been preserved in the artifacts left behind.
Sounds like a wonderful celebration of life and family!
My goodness what a project to put on a reunion for 90 people! The kitchen and living room look great -- good idea to keep things as they were.
That is just wonderful!
This is so wonderful of you and I bet they love coming.
I love the vintage look! (if that's the right term...)
Wow does the refrigerator still work?? I absolutely love it! Have a great time!!
@Mrs_FoodLover - Yep, it is the fridge we use down there, it works well.
That is amazing, I would love to buy one like it!
Beth, these are wonderful pictures of your home. I love the way you have maintained it and I know your family will appreciate it, too. Have a wonderful time.
@Mrs_FoodLover - If you google Elmira Stoves or appliances they might be able to fulfill your dream.
Sounds like a lot of work. Fun work though!
This warms my heart. It sounds marvelous---I hope everyone thoroughly enjoys the homecoming.
just got that feeling of being in my grandparents kitchen as a kid...thks
Sounds like a lot of work but it also sounds like it will be worth it. That's quite the reunion. Loved the pictures. It looks like a lovely place and home is written all over it. Great share. Thank you...
What a beautiful home! And I love the old fridge.. funny how older things last longer than the junk they make today.
Sounds like a wonderful reunion!
Beautiful!
"sigh" where did those big houses go and the family type atmosphere around the table in the kitchen. Seems like now days they are trying to get us accustomed to cramped spaces. When they built the neighbors house, I thought "Wow, what a large pantry" The builder told me that was the kitchen. "How can anyone call that a kitchen?" He said people don't use kitchens anymore.
Awwww, so wonderful.
What a lovely idea! Sometimes I feel sad when I think about the place where we grew up belonging to someone else now. I wish I could go visit it someday and just walk around and remember.
Very large and spacious house . I like it.
