  • Generating 100 Comments

I am not participating in the contest
to see who can get to 100 comments the quickest
    but I wonder
what title to a post will generate traffic and comments the fastest?

Something mentioning Xanga , boobs or sex will do it.

    What else?

  • Odd questions work & adding LOL behind your title when your post has comics.

  • It also seems like if Abortion or Religion are in the title, people are drawn in too!

  • You probably need to actually post some boobs to get comments.  Hits or track on the other hand.....

  • Anything that seems controversial, like Megabyyte suggested. usually by adding "sex" and "boobs", you attract a lot of males, I noticed

  • If use works as you suggest---sex, sensuality,  senior sex, slave, abuse----it get more footprints. My Sunday Sermon out line gets the fewest comments. lol

    frank

  • somethingmysogenistic oratleast dismissive of othersrights selfish usually someegotistcgain atanothers expence.

  • How about kisses? Give a comment get a kiss...

  • Misspell something in the title.

  • racist or bigot in the title might be up there, too especially if linked to politics or religion

  • Or just do what Theo (Dan) does and piss people off. They flock to his page to deride him.

  • Well, this one got me here.

I used to think it would be great to get lots of comments.  I learned, though, that to do that consistently, you have to have great content and you have to work at it.  You have to visit many, many sites and leave great comments there.  I have found that it is better to have fewer comments that come from people I really want to hear from.

  • "goodbye xanga"
    Never fails

  • In a post, use one or more of the classic formula: sex, religion or politics.

  •    well that's a bit lame.. since did Xanga become a popularity contest?

  • perhaps you already "hit" the topic. LOL

  • I don't always comment on your blogs, your response back is about below average in my book.

Well you are only at 17 now, but I will give a rec.

  • @PPhilip - I am not trying to get to 100 but thank you for commenting.

  • I am going to go a different direction than everyone else.  I am guessing "depression" as the title will work the best.

  • I have no idea as I've never approached 100 comments!

  • Oh! Sure! Boobs or sex - but if you make it personal - it will draw more then if it is a generic boob or sex post! And of course - sometimes you don't even have to mention boobs or sex in the title. Maybe: "I can't get enough! Can you help?" Along with an imploring profile picture with some cleavage! Then you could post about pickles! Big green pickles! shglaf! Or: "My husband wants to see me do it with another man!" and post about washing the van or doing the dishes or cutting the grass...

  • Create a contest of answering a list of questions, and offer an award to the person who provide all the correction answers first. People can submit muliple comments to answer the questions. That may do it if you pre-announce the contest so people anticipate, and then if you offer $1000 reward, you may hit one million hit easy, hehe.

  • I think once I got over 30 comments, but I don't remember what I posted about! I think John did pretty good with that picture of Lori topless!

  • Americans and others want to be tittilated (forgive the pun!) so if you want readership, just post something that will "inspire" them!

  • @winniezpoo - I love that pun!

  • How about food?

  • I did a post about superhero girlfriends a few years ago and got a LOT of comments.

  • Beth,

If I've typed this once, I've typed it a thousand times. "I'm here for the comments."

When I joined Xanga, my goal was to get a healthy 30 comments per entry. I figured I'd simply do this by providing some of the best content on Xanga. Didn't work. Real world (er, I should say Xanga real world) expectations modified that number down to 15-20. For most of what I'd call my "Xanga heyday", which included exposure as ringleader of the Internet Island participatory blogring (roughy 2005-2007) I called myself a "15 comment man" (sly reference to the old blues tune 15 minute man) (I even started a project where I'd sing the song and produce a "music video".)

My "Sexual History" posts used to be popular, but became less so. Any Xangacentric parody or "assessment" entry might propel me to top blogs. I got well over 100 comments on Xangapedia and Top Comment string. I have always "visited" on Xanga mainly by "returning comments", sort of like exchanging correspondence, so I don't comment like others for the most part. (Heck, I edit my comments!)

We used to have the participatory rings to jog interest in our entries, and to hopefully propel more "worthy" bloggers to top spots simply because of mass support. Then "featured question" sort of stole the fire from the rings. (I noticed the "Featured Grownups" site if not the blogring has disappeared.)

Nowadays, what I like to call the "@wars" is guaranteed to generate comments and top blog status. Tag lots of users. No actual content is needed.

I'm always somewhat disappointed when I write an entry on which I've spent a lot of time doesn't seem to be of interest to only a few of my close friends on here, and sits, sometimes commentless, for days. Then I'll post something like a series of sunset photos taken outside my mobile which will shoot to top blogs immediately and stay there for two days.

I guess, as in life, one has to expect the least from Xanga noteriety and just hope for the best. This is my thought based solely on content, and not by "engineering" one's entries to be popular because of politics, sex (I'd rate boobs as a subset of sex), or "xangacide" or "calling someone out".

Bandwagons are fine. I like always finding new fish in the pond. And I'm STILL finding wonderful blogs which are well written and masterfully created, whose writers just don't care for noteriety of any kind, and just keep plugging away.

  • This title should work.....

  • @IntoTheWind1 - No one visits my site, I might have to try that one

  • Never thought about that.  I don't post some things on FB to 2 of my sisters as I know that they are for Obama just because he is half black, so I discuss politics with other people.
