I was born on my dad’s birthday,he planned it and it worked out.
On my fifth birthday he gave me his birthday money
and took me on a shopping spree.
I bought a Raggedy Ann Doll
This is what she would look like

…if the dog had not ripped her face off.
If I had not dragged her through the rain and puddles.
If I had not slept with her every night for six years.
If I had not cried a million tears into her cloth.
If I had not gripped her so hard in the night when my dad
went into a rage and wanted to kill my mom.
If I had not took her swimming in the creek with me.
If I had not loved her more than anything else in the world.
But my poor doll… this is what’s left of her after all that.

    She smells the same
once in a while I bring her close and look at her,
I go back in time, the memories are swift and strong as they flood over me
they can close my throat and bring tears to my eyes
    but
when and breathe her  scent in I relax and feel comforted.
it is amazing that a doll can do all that.

She is still my most treasured item.
What is your most treasured item?

My most treasured item…………….hmmm………………I love my china hutch and the things in it. I love my piano and my grandparents’ king-sized bed that now sits in my bedroom. I love my bookcase that my daddy made and the handmade doll bed  he made for me. It means the world to me! I can’t think of anything that is my most prized possession. Maybe my wedding rings. I would not want to be without them. Ever.
