The Gifts of the Xangans:Suzsea
A few years ago I posted a Christmas story
and someone on Xanga responded with the sweetest gift.When I was about 9 our neighbor worked at Pepperidge Farm,
at Christmas they gave my sister and I each a present.
My sister opened hers, it was a box of Pepperidge Farm Cookies, she ate them
and they wanted me to open mine but I wanted to wait til Christmas
so I put my present under the tree.
My Brothers carefully opened them up, ate them, taped it back up
and put it back under the tree.
I remember being so pleased for waiting to open that gift only to find it empty!
That's the kinds of things brothers do and it is funny now
but I cried back then.A few weeks after posting that a package came in the mail for me
@suzsea.
from
Inside was a box of Pepperidge Farm Cookies
That was the sweetest gift!
This gift made me cry too and still does as I am writing this
and I had to wonder why.All anyone said to me about that back then was
"Well, you should have eaten them when you had the chance".
That is when I gave up on the joy of waiting til Christmas to open a present.
but also I think that's when I began my journey into hording food
and eating more than I need so I would have it.
We never know how what we say will effect others.Suzsea's gift was like healing balm over an old wound.
The effects of her kindness will always be a sweet memory.

This was sweet, lovely story. I like PF cookies, but sometimes I find them over priced...

Honestly... I think it was cruel, not funny, that your brothers did that... and I can see how it may have contributed to other things later in your life. I'm so glad you got that gift and that it helped you. It's amazing what can be balms to our souls...
Sweet story, Brothers!! How nice to get that PF gift, looks so good.
@Suzsea is a wonderful soul. Whoever said 'Grab it or lose it' in my house would have got the strap. We were always made to share.
I hope this hole in your heart is healing.
What a sweet thing for Suzsea to do!
that is indeed really sweet
Aww, I'm so glad you have friends like that. Hoarding food because of marauding brothers certainly makes more sense than doing it to prepare for Nazis. Hopefully we can both let go of our fears now.
What a great person is @suzsea.....your brothers were awful though
I have never found that kind of thing funny at all; it's just mean. To hide the cookies and then give them back would be a different matter. This was indeed a very kind gift, and I'm glad it healed something in you.
good grief, that was so wrong of your brothers. if that had happened in the household i grew up in, a spanking of a lifetime, followed by a repurchasing of the cookies would have taken place. in fact, i would spank them now if i had the chance. ugh.
that's so sweet that someone redeemed that memory for you.
Priceless gift!!
To steal your gift was bad enough; to leave an empty box wrapped and under the tree for you to open on Christmas day compounds the cruelty. Your brothers should have had their butts handed to them on a platter. AND they should have had to EACH buy you a box of cookies. AND they should have each had one Christmas gift taken away from them and donated to charity. God bless suzsea for her response.
Wicked brother. I guess I'm glad I never had a brother! How sweet to receive those cookies. I have to say if I'm going to eat store bought cookies those are the kind to get!
Aw.
(We were poor and my brothers were always hungry. So my mom had to hide food to keep it in the house longer.)
Your friend @suzsea is sweeter than any cookie!
HUGS to both of you!
The road to recovery is long and arduous. Good that you understand and want to recover.
@ehrinn_l - You hit the nail on the head with this comment,so profound. She did,indeed,redeem the memory. I love the way you put that.
I like Suzsea!
@saintvi - You are right!
What a nice story!
If I had done that to my sister, I would've had my ass busted.
@saintvi - I agree!!
I am so enjoying your gift series, keep them coming!
PS~ I don't find it funny, not sure why some folks don't have that compassion gene. Thank God for the ones that do.
I don't think it was funny at all.... was rather mean and selfish what your brothers did. If one of my kids did that to the other I would have made them make it up to them. How ridiculous to tell the one who had their gift stolen that they should have eaten it while they had the chance! Just because it was under the tree didn't mean it was fair game! It was for YOU! As a parent, I think was very wrong to blame you and not hold your brothers accountable. You did nothing wrong, they did.
very nice
What meanies those brothers were! I'm so glad you were able to put this wonderful memory over the top of the bad one - a perfect bandage to cover an old wound... *healing hugs to you*
Oh how wonderful and Xanga is the best place on the web.
If that were the house I grew up in and I did that to my sister... the title of your blog would have been, "Why my brother died on Christmas morning..."
Tell your brothers I think they are jerks.
Sail on... sail on!!!
That is so kind! We all need more kindness.
@WakeUpLaughing - That is a very, very good point. Like I said, more kindness please!
Your brothers owe you a Liposuction. FWUAHAHAHAHAHA!!
@RulerofMasons - Haaaaaaaaa!
There you are! My brother was not quite so mean. But he would eat a chocolate bar, then take the empty wrapper and refold it and slide it back into the sleeve and leave it laying out on a table someplace. Looked just like and untouched chocolate bar! It was a mean trick! He howled!
