  • Did you Ever Peek?

I bought my baby niece some Carter's onesies

and a few other baby outfits  for her first Christmas present.
When her mom was looking at it the baby's 6 yr old brother said
     "Mom, the baby's looking!"

Did you ever Peek at your Christmas presents before Christmas?

  • I did. I would neatly cut the tape with a knife and slide the box out.. then tape it back up after I was done...

    I've never liked surprises.

  • I don't remember.  If I did, it was a long time ago.  One year I was starting to wrap a doll for my little girl in a Cheerios box, when she unexpectedly came home.  The box eventually was put away in the cupboard with the other cereal boxes.  One morning she decided to have Cheerios for breakfast and discovered the doll.  We've laughed about that ever since.

  • No way! I love being surprised on Christmas! (I like to shake the intriguing-shaped or sounding presents that make their way under the tree before Christmas - those are the only ones I try to figure out, but never by opening!)

  • Aww, cute!  I accidentally found out a couple of times, but I was usually content to wait.  Waiting to give presents now, that's the hard part.

  • I was 5 or 6 when this happened. Before Christmas my aunt had sent a package to me. Mom hide it on a top shelf in a closet. Later when left alone I slipped it down and opened. I thought I was being very clever by carefully closing it back up. Mom later noticed the crime and questioned me. I told her I had heard,"let me out, let me out" coming from the box so I opened and peeked into it. For some reason Mom failed to believe me nor did she let me have my blond blue eyed doll before Christmas..

  • Once I did peek at all my gifts when my mom was working..  I felt so guilty and realized that the excitement was well worth the wait.. so I haven't done it again.. now that I'm an adult I pretty much know what I'm getting... so there's no real need to go looking for what I specifically told hubby to get lol

  • no i was never a peeker. my brother was, but i liked being surprised and i knew how hard my parents worked for us to have a good christmas so i didn't want to ruin anything (my mom would've found out, she has eyes everywhere).

i liked to guess though, the mystery was always fun :)

  • oh and your story is cute! when i was wrapping emma's presents preston came over and picked one up and sat it in front of her. as if she can really comprehend what's going on at 6 months of age i immediately snatched it up and said "no preston it's her christmas present! she can't see it!" LOL. i realize she had no idea...but still!

  • Oh yes. But it never did much good because there were five of us kids and we never knew which gift was for whom. In fact, we sometimes fought over gifts that were still hiding in Mom's closet.

  • Never.

Didn't want to piss Santa off. He sees everything.

  • I can't remember a Christmas that I didn't peek. Or at least try to! I've always been a nosy little peeker!

@Bricker59 - Didn't you see Beth's last post? There is no Santa. Yep, she ruined it for me too.

  • @buddly47 - LIES!!! ALL LIES!!!

My grampa told me about Santa, he was a Minister, a man of God.

He never told a lie in his life. Nuff said.

Beth's mum was sorely mistaken. She was just plain wrong.

  • @Bricker59 - I heard you were only giving cash gifts this year. You still have my address, right?

  • @buddly47 - I love you Bud...Being your friend just makes me happy. And don't bother checking your mailbox, nor will I be checking mine!! Merry Christmas my friend!!

  • The most hilarious present you can get is an apple.

  • I remember being really disappointed one year because my mother knew what each of her gifts was within 1/2 hour of it arriving in the house!  Her advance knowledge of what she had asked for spoiled the fun for all of us!

  • Mom was very good at hiding things so I never got to peek

  • I didn't peak but I sure listened....I mean - how do you close your ears

  • I peeked when I was really small, but now I know (mostly) what I'm getting anyway, so there's no point in peeking at things anymore.

  • that's adorable!! i used to always peak i knew how to rewrap the gifts and tape them up so they woudn't notice!

  • Yes!  And I still do!  :)

  • Yes, I did once when I was about 9...    :(   The next the packages I had looked in were taped up with ugly brown masking tape...  I never did do that again!  Packages are so pretty, they can be hard to resist. :) Masking tape is NOT pretty! lol

  • Yes. And after my dad got done with me, I never peeked ever again!

  • That's like asking if I had a death-wish. Not on your life.
@buddly47 - @Bricker59 - What are you guys talking about? No Santa?? Don't mess with me. I can't handle disappointment.

  • That is the cutest story ever!
    I'm not a peeker...but sometimes I'm a shaker!
    HUGS!
PS...those Carter's onesies are the best!

  • Nah, I like to be surprised!

  • @RulerofMasons - i think i get that.

  • one time my brother and I snuck in on christmas eve night and were digging into our stockings in the dark, and mom caught us. we took off running.  I had some kind of doll figure.  the next day I found out it was spider man.

  • I did! When I was 9 I carefully undid the tape on one end of each of my packages to peek at the box. Only one problem, I didn't realize the tape didn't stick as well putting it back together. I got caught and didn't live it down for YEARS afterward. Funniest part was, most of the boxes were generic so I accomplished nothing!

  • No and you know why not?  I'm embarassed, but I'll tell you anyway.  I didn't peek because I actually believed in Santa with every fiber of my young being.   Therefore it wouldn't have occurred to me that there'd be anything to find.  It was all with santa.

  • I was terrible about peeking.  One year, there was 1 box I just could not open... on Christmas morning I was very glad I had not been able to get it open because when I opened it the box nearly exploded.  My mom had packed a snowsuit so tight into a small box - I never would have gotten it back in!!  That almost broke me of the habit

  • Nope. The tradition was the gifts didn't appear under the tree until Christmas morning. No opportunity to peek. Now my dad was an unrepentant peeker. As an adult he could guess the contents of a gift at 20 paces. One year, he dropped us girls at the mall and we had the gift wrapped professionally in foil backed opaque paper. As we carried it to the car and put it in the trunk (without letting him touch it) he thanked us for the electric blanket! And he was right! We were so perturbed.

  • Heck yeah I peeked! I remember one year I even unwrapped them a little so I could see what they were and then wrapped them back up.

  • I never peeked when I was little but the first Christmas that I was married I did peek!  It was a beautiful ring

  • Omigosh... I did. I was hopping to get a girly red dress and I did!

  • Oh, I did once, I was about 10, I discovered my mom had a hiding place in a cabinet in the basement down by the shower.  I found a beautiful "daughter's ring" that she had gotten me for Christmas, had my birthstone in the center, and my mom and dad's on either side, and I used to go look at it every day until Christmas.

  • Did I peak?!? Yeah! Wait! You were talking about Christmas presents?!? I only pretended to peak! It kept them busy moving boxes around and changing labels! It was more fun than actually peeking!

  • Oh.. I'm a snoop dog... I would sneak up and hide to take a peek of my still unwrapped present! I'm a naughty dog!

  • Thank you so much for my lovely red hat. That was really quick... a red hat within 10 mins. I'm stoked!

  • never peeked but often times was able to figure out what it was before i opened it  by the shape of the package and/or the sloppy wrapping job. wrapping things really well, but so that it is obvious what it is has been developed into an art form among the members of donkey's family--very amusing to see items like hammers, purses, lamps and such wrapped in that way...

  • I looked once when I was young. It was the worst Christmas ever because that morning when I opened presents I had to pretend to be surprised. I'd much rather actually be surprised.

  • If I could find the presents I would peek.... better to not know, but kids have that incurable curiosity.... ;)
