  • I made Barbie Look Fat

I am helping my Mom make Christmas presents for her Great Grand Daughters.
She is making them all Barbie clothes.
One Christmas when I was about six
she gave my little sister and I an old cracker tin

full of clothes that she made.
We loved those clothes and played with them for years.
She is using the same patterns now, it is fun to make clothing for the kids
and remember the ones I had (ours were lost in a fire)
Last night I made Barbie nice evening wear but I am afraid the dress makes her look fat.
I made a cloak to match.

Here are other barbie clothes I've made

  • She is not fat.  She just needs a little exercise.

  • Hey she looks normal now!

  • I had a friend whose mom made Barbie clothes. Those were always my favorite outfits for Barbie. : )

  • I don't think they make her look fat. My gram used to crochet barbie clothes (not a lot) it was a lot of work. I'm going to see her in the nursing home today.

  • Just saw the fashion show.  the clothes look wonderful and the poses are great.  Lots of work and love goes into handmade doll clothes.

  • Wonderful!! I have a friend that collects Barbie Dolls - she goes to the conventions and has outfits made for hersself that match the vintage clothes for her dolls (they have a fashion contest!) I love the gown and no it doesn't make Barbie look fat!

One year my mother took me shopping for a Christmas gift for my sister - we bought Christmas ornaments - 12 metallic plastic musical instruments - Barbie sized! They had twisty wire so Barbie could "hold" them. (she also took my sister shopping and bought the same for me - she was sneaky that way) We had fun setting up our own band/ orchestra and that was wayyyy before Rock n' Roll Barbie and all the Rock Star Diva dollls!!!

  • Welcome to the world of cellulite, Barbie.

  • You do awesome work.  Talent like this is a rare treasure.  My twin does things like this and it has always made me jealous.  I don't think you made Barbie look fat.  But, after all, she does have a little age on her now, so it's quite all right to let her have a little more curve to her figure.  LOL

  • If I lived in Barbie's body for a week I could not only make her look fat, I could make her BE fat.

  • Those clothes are amazing!!  My girlies play with a barbie and clothing that was mine when I was a little girl.  I don't think I'd have the patience to make those itsy bitsy clothes.

Oh, I don't think Barbie could ever look fat.  We need a 21st century Barbie...LOL.  Do you think it would sell?  LOL

  • I remember the days when my mother made all of my doll clothes....

  • You are awesome and so talented...You did a wonderful job

  • Looks great to me!  (For a second there, I thought the clothes were being made of saltine crackers.)

  • She actually looks like a normal girl. You are so talented, Beth! :)

  • Undress barbie. Barbie skinny now. Undress yourself, Beth fat!

  • now she looks normal.

  • It's what's inside that counts, Beth, even with Barbie!

  • She's even more gorgeous because of your creations. And that's what makes the difference.

  • Ha, the title, before I read the post and pix, reminded me of a thinspo post: "I'm so skinny I make *Barbie* look fat!'
And we both know that fashion-artists exaggerate the proportions so routinely that it's no longer noticed. Any human girl with limbs like a plastic doll's would be detained as an alien species.
Making doll clothes is probably tougher than actual-size, right Beth? Just like tiny little people's shoes cost as much as my size 11s, that the shoemaker can bicycle around inside of while he works on 'em.

  • That is totally awesome.  LOVE the clothes. I wasn't much of a doll player growing up, I did, however, love to dress them up, leave them a while then change their clothes. I have two barbie dolls from my childhood.  One is wearing a wedding dress my grandmother made, the other is wearing a red dress my grandmother made.  Love that! The clothes meant more to me than the dolls.

  • LOL @ Barbie outfits. Maybe that will promote a positive sense of healthy body figure to the kids. LMAO!!!

  • Just how old is Barbie now? It just might be she added a few extra pounds as she hit menopause.I'm just sayin'.

  • I made most of my Barbie clothes as a young girl too. I also made paper dolls which I really had fun with. I could create anything i wanted with cardboard and glued heads from magazines.

  • anyone who has the patience to make Barbie doll clothes is some kind of awesome.  i about flip a gasket making american girl doll clothes.

  • So pretty! It's good that the dress is a little big. It was always nearly impossible to squeeze Barbie into the store bought clothes.

  • LOL! The dress looks cute!! :)

  • Looks cute.

  • A fat Barbie is more unthinkable than a fat wife. lol  The clothes are nice--ready for winter.

  • The outfits are beautiful.  You've got talent! (but you know that already).  I think that Saltines box is adorable.

  • Barbie needs to be careful before she becomes reverse thinspo.

  • Impressive!  I am so jealous of people who can sew.  I bet these clothes will be much enjoyed and cherished long after the dolls are outgrown.

  • I love these and the ones from the other post . This brings back memories from my childhood . Id always love the homemade Barbie clothes . When my god mother or folks traveled I'd had them buy me the homemade ones . Needless to say my collection was the  envy of all my friends and girl cousins :) I wish I still had them as I passed them along to my sister whom in turn ended up not interested in them and gave them away or lost the pieces .

  • It's about stinkin' time someone made her look normal! ROFL  Beautiful clothes, btw!

  • forget about her attire, Barbie's a ginger ! no wonder Ken divorced her ass !

  • I think Barbie looks great with a little weight on her.  Love the clothes.

  • Maybe she's expecting and you're being insensitive!

  • girls and their Barbie fascination :D hehehe :D this activity would explore you and your girl's creativity :D

  • Love the homemade Barbie clothes! Barbie is just a Stepford wife and she should get a little chunky so the rest of us won't feel so bad.

  • My sister when she was a child had Sindy dolls and also some Barbie dolls

  • I just sold a tin like tht just for $5 in my booth

yes, I still have my Barbie's head but my brother cut it's pony tail off and ran over it's body with the lawnmover (I think on purpose)

our aunt made us clothes even before Barbie's when it was the doll with the bubble hair do
