  • So maybe I am boring...

I know I post a lot of photos and avoid drama,
I will not argue or fight.
I try not  to comment on negative posts or gossip
and I keep a lot of my strong opinions to myself.
    ...boring.

I prefer to encourage rather than discourage
and I do not often complain.

I will be the first to tell you my blog is on the boring side...
    making sauerkraut is not thrilling.

I never thought my life was so interesting, it is a way of life come and gone
but here the traditions of doing certain things was continued, it just never stopped.
Like growing produce for the year,
having a root cellar full of potatoes, onions, cabbage and carrots,
    canning and freezing,
shelves lined with jars and freezers full, I never buy corn or peas.
Cooking everyday and baking from scratch,
shopping at thrift stores for most of our clothing,
making cider and rendering lard after butchering.
Having a springhouse which is still our water source,
using the pans and pails the were used on the farm since it was a farm,
keeping the wringer washer which is still in the basement and I have used it,
I use a washboard to get dirt out of the jeans when they are really dirty
I do not even have a clothes dryer and because of that the clothing lasts a lot longer,
Sewing and mending, I put patches on work clothing and replace zippers,
I eventually cut  up old clothing for rags and keep buttons and zippers for reuse.
Doing things with the kids, not relying on TV  to entertain them,
Having our  greenhouse business on our property
and being closed on Sundays as it is our day of rest.

When I started blogging everyday life
I realized that this was so different from the mainstream,
and even if I felt like it was boring ,not everyone else did.

This blog is my social and creative outlet,
it is a journal for the future generations to see ,
    it is my joy,
my touchstone to a community that I love.
It is what I do for me.

  • Even though I don't read all of my subscriptions, sometimes not coming to xanga for weeks or months, I always value your offerings. Thank you for sharing all you do.

  • Keep doing your thing; obviously, it works =)

  • There's something so fresh, so beautiful seeing clothes hanging on the line.

You couldn't pull off boring if you tried, your way of life is one of xanga's truest treasures.

  • You are keeping youself balanced and free from negativity - more people should be like that. I wanted to have a life the way you descibe yours, but my life just didn't go that way and I regret it. I learned more about this "civilized" world than I ever cared to know about, but I guess it was meant to be. I wish you and yours all the best in your "boring" life.

  • Being a fine and wholesome lady isn't boring at all.

  • You're far from boring.  You are a kind and gentle spirit, and while I may not always comment, I always enjoy your photos.

  • and it should be "what you do for you" ... keep on truckin' Beth!

  •          because I choose to look at the "other" side of everyday life and look for the good in it...because I look for the laughter I have been called different...this is our journal for the future...and you boring?...who is kidding you?...I look forward to your posts....and Sunday is always a day of rest from the world for me too...I read you but not always comment...but your words and pictures leave something in my mind to think about all day...keep on keeping on...Smile

  • You're not boring at all, Beth. I would have to be too-- which I don't think I am, or you think i am either.
We do what others may consider mundane tasks but you remind me of proverbs 31 woman!

What you do is extraordinary. You are a cook, seamstress, manager, farmer, photographer, counselor, instructor, handling budgets, purveying, organizing, empowering -- you beautify your world. That's awesome!
    Hugshugshugs

  • I agree 100% with Wild Woman!  Don't you ever stop posting your daily life.  We enjoy it!!

  • The skills you present here are amazing.

  • I happen to love to peek into your life - perhaps it is the curiosity in me but I like to think it is also a way to experience the simple pleasures vicariously... I for one love your blog! (I've never thought it boring!)

  • i love your blog.  i feel happy and satisfied when i read your posts.  i feel like the world is a good and safe place.  and i love sauerkraut and am seriously thinking about trying it out.  because if i can make the best pickles on the planet, why can't i make sauerkraut too? boring, schmoring.

  • You are amazing I wish I knrw how to do just half the things you do I am lucky if I can half way sew a button on right.

  • Beth -- your site is one of the least boring on Xanga -- I even learned about how sauerkraut is made !  Seriously, I love seeing your photos of this "way of life come and gone."

  • I like that you don't have drama here.  And your pictures always amaze me.  :)

  • In general I find the Xanga Drama boring. After being "involved" with the Xanga community for over a year (while I've been on Xanga since 2005 I didn't really branch out until recently) it seems to constantly recycle. It's very predictable.

I think the most interesting blogs are those that give you a look into their real lives, which is what you do.

  • I don't think you're boring.  I think you live an unconventional life compared to most on xanga (city dwellers who don't prepare lard or churn butter) and I think it's very interesting to hear about it.  In fact, I sort of wish I had that life sometimes, as it's often, I think, simpler than what I've got now.

  • YAAAAAAWWWWNNNN!!!  I'm sorry, did you say anything?

    I KEED, I KEED!

    You're not boring!!! You're cool!

  • you're anything but boring. your pictures are gorgeous. the things you make are impressive. i envy you your abilities.

  • i echo haloes' sentiment. more and more i want to live your kind of life, though i doubt i could even approach the level of competency you do and make things we mere mortals buy at the market or boutiques. you have found a niche on xanga. nobody does  seedsower the way you do uhm yeah

you're the xanga martha stewart but much nicer and you have a much more beautiful smile

  • Everybody should do their own thing!  I like to read all kinds of different blog styles. I think that's what makes Xanga.

  • I for one come here when ever I can to read and look at what ever you blog please don't ever think of stopping.  I remember Sharon her daughter is still here I would look in here whenever I could just to see if she posted something.  You are just like that the everyday is never so everyday when you are writing it, its always the Wonderful, Amazing, Every Day!

    Blessings, Christie

  • Beth, you and your life as you share it with us are far from boring. I enjoy seeing the greenhouses, your family, and your life. Please don't ever think of stopping. Our lives would be far less without you in them.

  • You are my morning neighbor. I read your blog and enjoy your pictures everyday. You do not have time to be boring! I am just glad you choose to share your life with us. I have done most of the things you do and loved doing them. I have never made lard or sauerkraut and don't think I will put them on my bucket list!

  • I think your blog is inspiring, a reminder to enjoy that which matters most. I love the food posts, I love cooking & baking from scratch and it's a great reminder that I'm not the only person who perfers lie of a quieter nature. You have many, many followers for many good reasons. Keep it up, Love!

  • A good thing about being heavy is, you get to relax in your tub. Life sucks and we try our best to be positive. I am the percentage that feeds off the negativity like a smoker addict. Bless you for your green touch on these waters, I hope you get what you really want in life, acceptance for who you are without you feeling guilty.

  • Interesting, innovative posts are never boring.  The same old drama, which your critics crave, is insufferably boring.

  • I'm glad you live like you do. My son wants to have a simple cabin on a piece of land and raise his own food and get off the grid as much as possible. I hope he's able to do it. It's very healthy.

  • You are so not boring! You're like an onion; you have layers... You wanna know who's boring? People who are ALWAYS - in every single post and comment - argumentative, obnoxious, convinced of their intellectual superiority and putting others down for the sake of a few eProps or a spot on Top Blogs. How pathetic is that? I can't imagine wanting to go visit someone like that at their home, or drive across the country with them, or introduce them to my mom.

  • I take that back. I can imagine introducing them to my mom. She'd set them straight.

  • Your blog reminds the rest of us about the simple but Great things in life. I love the pictures and the lifestyle you have. After all we are not suppose to be normal we are part of a peculiar people .

Keep up the posts. Yours is one of the few I take time to read even when I don't post a comment

  • You are not boring. You are an uplifting soul. You are an affirmation of the life that I lead and the simplicity that God created for all of us. You are a testimony to hard work, faith in God and love for family.  Keep it up please and never stop.

  • It's really refreshing.

I can never shut up in my comments. I'm just too emotional.

  • Boring??  Sweetie there is not one thing boring about this site and what you blog about.  I love watching your life and following yoru adventures and loved the post on making kraut.  I learn things here I would never know if I didn't come here.  You are on of my blessings here on Xanga and if someone thinks you are boring, there are plenty of drama, bullcrap blogs for them to go too.

  • You have something I ache for everyday, I like your blogs a lot. I just want to get away from it all, just have things simple, and uncomplicated. So far it hasn't happened, but reading your posts often make me feel a lot better.

  • Oh and. You know I didn't like the color green much before I started reading your blog? Now it's one of my favorite colors. It's all the little things you do, the sunshine in your eyes, and all the colors in your words and the love in your pictures. Think about it. If you were really boring, noone would ohhh and ahhh at your blog.

  • I don't often comment on your posts, but not because they're boring... Simply because so often, what I want to say (Beth, you're wonderful/sweet/loving/amazing etc) has already been expressed. You are one of the cornerstones of Xanga... People like to read about drama, but they also like to read about happy things!

  • I do not think you are boring, you are inspiring. It is plain to see that you work very hard and you don't often see that kind of commitment. I love cooking I think it's relaxing and it gives you time to think and reflect on your day.Keep up the good work is what I say.

  • Your pictures and stories are never boring and always appreciated.

  • you're not boring at all! i love your photos, your stories and reading everything about your life, from crafts to cooking!

  • nothing wrong with avoiding drama

you're  a place of placidity amid the trauma.

and sometimes a picture is more powerfully heard

than anything conveyed by the spoken word.

so rustic a lifestyle has almost disappeared

and for maintaining it, you should be roundly  cheered.

  • Hells Bells Beth....I wish I was as boring as you!

  • you make my day -I'm still laughing about some post you've had in the past. lol lol lol

  • Boring isn't bad, especially when the "drama" is manufactured. :)

  • I don't think you are boring.  I find your blog interesting.  I enjoy reading about everyday life on the farm.
It brings back some fond memories and teaches me new things.

  • Making sauerkraut may not be thrilling, but eating it definitely is.

  • I don't think your boring and you are very pretty. Nice photo and nice smile.

  • No way! You're not boring. I have learned, and am learning so much from your blog as we try to go back to a more 'traditional' way of life here on our little patch of land. I think my blog is the boring one. All I ever talk about these days are my chickens. LOL

  • You're not boring in the least.  You do things that the majority of us have/will never do.  I know I can't sew anything except buttons.  I can barely keep one plant alive, much less a whole greenhouse full of them.  You've got fun little quirks, like finding faces in random things.  I think you're awesome.

  • Since it was only a short time ago that I jumped on your bandwagon, I have alot of back-reading to catch up on. And that, to me, is such a wonderful thing!

  • I don't think just posting pictures and staying out of trolls' paths is boring. It's smart. It makes you and your blog respectable, and that is a good thing.

  • would not class this as a boring site.
    at all.

  • @the_rocking_of_socks -

Thanks for recing my comment. I like yours too. I hear ya. I in no way can do half of what beth does. She's amazing!

  • boring is the last word that I would use to describe you!  I love reading your posts!

  • I live in the heart of large city.  Reading your blog gives me a perspective of a very different but interesting lifestyle.  Just keep on doing what you're doing.

  • You're not boring. I like your posts.

  • Beth, I love everything about you and your blog. It is such a great relief from all the drama on Xanga.

PS- I am boring, too. I don't participate in any of that stuff. I think it's the best way to go.

  • Did someone tell you you're boring?!  I looked back but saw nothing but people who loved your posts!!  Drama is wayyyyyyyy overrated.  Keep posting your cool stuff.  :)

  • You actually have commented on negative posts, but it's human nature I guess. Still, I love your posts.

  • @CreativeUndertow -You are right ,that is why I said " I try not to"  ,sometimes I do but I try not to in general. Thank you for still loving my posts in spite of it all.

  • @seedsower - There is no "in spite of." You are a wonderful person, and you make this site worth it. Thank you for this nice response!

  • you, madam, are far from boring. <3

  • I always find it to be a very interesting blog, full of pictures and humanity.

  • I want to be you! I would love to have that life someday.

  • I see you as perceptive, one who lives pretty much in the moment and one who Pays Attention and finds what is going on around her.  Pretty cool I say...

Dramatic, judgmental lives are so overrated.

  • This is my first time on your site.. but I find it pretty interesting! Sometimes we just go through the motions and wonder why people would think anything is interesting because we're so familiar with it..but since I don't make my own sauerkraut it is interesting ;)

  • My sister & her husband do a lot of these things, too... gardening, canning, butchering, heck - throw in bartering with the neighbors.  She also lives on a farm, they are adding onto themselves. There is never a free moment in their lives. There's planting the fields (besides their "garden" they grow acres of alphapha hay), and "putting up the hay", feeding the horses morning and night, mending fences, collecting (or searching for) the eggs from the free-range chickens. And last but certainly not least, raising their two kids  She wasn't brought up that way; she's just learned it, adapted. And I'm certain she thinks here life is boring, but it's not.  I love to go there.  When the bullfrogs are deep-throat croaking in the pond and the lightning bugs sparkling across the yard, the stars splashed so abundantly throughout the sky... the fog as it rolls across the hills and the deer that can frequently be seen hopping through the fields... to me it's not boring... it's something I never had and never will, and I cherish the time I get to spend there when I visit.

I've never read your blog before today, so I don't know about your writing style.  But what you have, it seems, behind the blog, in RL, is a lifestyle worth sharing with others.

  • Boring?  After meeting you in person, that is the last word I would ever use to describe you Beth!  You are one of the most interesting, fun, truly loving people I have ever met.  Your blogs are a glimpse into a beautiful, innocent way of life that we all should have the chance to experience.  You're a modern day Laura Ingalls Wilder, and, dear, her books, her life story, are some of the most treasured things I have ever read!  So, consider yourself in esteemed company!

  • I don't think there's anything boring about any of those things. Sounds like an admirable life. I envy you.

  • Many of the things you post about are so creative and interesting. I have several friends who do many of the things you do and I admire them also. These lost arts of homemaking and the skills you have are good things to do. I rather like the simple life and the pleasures of simple things.I also used a wringer washer and have a friend who still does. Even with my automatic washer I still always wash the whites 1st and my last load is always the dirtiest entirely from habit.

  • And I'm so glad you do!  Everyday life is not boring, it's what is most important.  Busy hands, full hearts, making do with what you have, making the most of that, enjoying simple pleasures, good company... that is what a beautiful life is built on.

    Love your heart Beth! ~April

  • Hey you look so pretty, can i know you, am looking for a clean sugar mummy, i love talking to a finest clean mummy like you,m can we date.. i love mummy sex.

    Thanks

    Emmanuel

  • @sugarcores - Ha around here a mummy is a thousand year old dead person wrapped in rags.

  • Seems pretty normal to me. We have some way to go before we can grow all our veg. We're on the wrong property for it, but many times I have used a needle to mend a garment or pick out splinters lol... I have a pretty good stash of canned goods. Cheers to being boring!
