When I joined Xang years ago there was a funny lady on here
who never failed to make me laugh.
She was like the Queen of Xanga back then,
she disappeared but had returned from time to time, this is my shoutout to
@MomofJenMatt
1. Can you tell us a bit about your life and family?
ok, my life, family, lol, wow loaded question. The simple answer, i am a divorced mom of a 22 and 24 year old boy and girl. I work as a paraprofessional ( big word for babysitter/teacher's aide) at a residential youth facility. We get court mandated, boys from 13 to 17 most of whom live in the worst areas of Chicago ( West side). The complex answer is, I have been divorced since 2007 but lived with my ex husband until a year and a half ago when he found himself a girlfriend, and I found myself homeless. My mom, bailed me out so to speak and I now live alone. My children live with their significant others bla, bla, bla. My life is odd and complex, but always interesting. I have strange family members, strange coworkers, and my friends are all over the map so to speak. From my pig farmer friend, to my gay best friend, to my psychologist turned house painter friend and my ex boyfriend/ex convict harley riding friend. My life fascinates me ha ha. And some day i want a real writer to write my life story.
2. What are your main interests, hobbies or collections?
I love to read. It is rare I am not in the middle of a book. In the last year or so I have really gotten into photography. I love taking and then manipulating photo's. It's very relaxing.
Here are a few of her photos
I am VERY social, love my friends and love people who are funny.
I need to be around humor and laughter.
3. Do you have a favorite memory from childhood?
My childhood wasn't " bad" but it was very erratic. We moved a lot
, I have learning disabilities and had a lot of issues with school. I went down some pretty bad paths. So sadly, it is hard for me to remember a great memory. I guess the best times were the same as now, being around good friends, reading a great book, things like that, nothing in particular.
4. What brought you to Xanga?
I used to read my daughter's xanga, first secretly, then openly. I started my own, I think so I could comment on one of my kids posts. Something about ME losing their laundry!
Their friends thought I was really funny, I joined some mom blog rings
and here I am many moons later. I think it's been about 7 years now.
5. What is your passion, pet peeve?
Passion, that's a hard one, I'm not sure I'm a really passionate person. I guess I am passionate when it comes to those I love, I have a hard time getting rid of people, once I love you, you are in, the ex husband and our ex living arrangement, is one example of that. Pet Peeve's, oh no, another loaded question. So many things get on my nerves lol. Eating while on the phone, I can't stand when people chomp in my ear. Speeding in the car when the light ahead just turned red and you know you will have to stop in two seconds anyway. 99% of my dealings with whoever is at the other end of the line when I have a problem with my phone, cable etc...Too many to list.
6. What are your plans for the future ?
I have no plans for my future, which is a huge fault of mine. I put things off and am the queen of avoidance. I deal with things as they come up, or not at all. I fantasize a lot though. I have a great future in my mind : )
7. What challenges have you faced recently?
Well, as I stated, it was probably naive of me, but i was genuinely shocked that my ex found himself someone who actually liked him. And I was genuinely shocked that he brought her to our home like we were just regular roommates. That was a huge challenge, breaking away from that situation. My job is very challenging, daily. And I always have financial challenges.
As in, I am always broke and have zero savings.
8.
8 is missing ha ha. Should I make up a question here? Ok, on a scale of 1-10 how hot are you? Definitely a 10, maybe an 8, fine a 7 tops. Ok, 6 but that's pushing it. Who wrote this stupid question anyway?
9. What is something you have learned about yourself these last few months?
I have learned I am a VERY strong person. I have learned I was in an extremely unhealthy, dysfunctional situation (I know, slow). I have learned to like myself and take care of myself.
I have lost 50 pounds in the last year and a half and on a 5 foot one person, that's a lot.
10. What is something/someplace you have always wanted to do/see? I am very content in my little world. I really don't have a desire to travel or see things like normal people.
In fact, I have a travel curse, so it's just as well. I do have a desire to be independently wealthy and have a pool and house keepers, but I have no desire to actually do anything to get to that point.
I am waiting for it to fall in my lap. Anything I want to see or do,
like see Brad Pitt in the nude and sleep with him are not going to happen,
so there is no point in dwelling on it.
I am always pleased to see you when you reappear Laura
and hope you stay for a while!

nice pic
Great shoutout! And those pictures are fantastic!
Those are some really great photos!
Oh wow, her photography is great! I've seen her around Xanga a lot lately and she seems like a really nice lady.
I was really happy to see her back because I used to read her posts and laugh until I cried. She is a very funny lady with a talent for writing and story-telling.
Thanks for this, Beth.
I got a couple comments from her and then went to her site and decided I'd like her
It's nice to know a bit of the history with her, and it's pretty obvious that she's eminently likeable from the way she wrote the answers to the questions.
Plus, wow to the pictures.
Besides, a recommendation from you is like solid gold in my esteem.
I have recently discovered @MomofJenMatt
She's super funny! Very very funny. I'm not surprised her kids and their friends think she's funny.
Like this comment of hers, I find very funny,
.....but i was genuinely shocked that my ex found himself someone who actually liked him.
LOL!
Thank you Beth. You should have warned me though, today's blog = not funny and may make people mad. Yesterdays was sort of funny though ( I hope). Maybe anyone who comes over will skip todays.
@thesoftlights@blackhk - thank you so much, I am blushing, seriously, I really never put my pictures up on xanga because I never feel they are that good.
@Lost_In_Reverie - thank you, like I said above I don't know why, I'm really insecure about my photos
@Cestovatelka - thanks, I try and be nice, I think I am, I am thinking my todays blog will seem not nice, but that is rare I swear.@saintvi - THANK YOU!!! Best compliment ever.
@opticalnoise - I like you too, I am glad I made new friends here, lots of my old friends have left.
@Diva_Jyoti_3 - Thank you, I was serious about that comment though. I really was shocked. I like you a lot too.
@momofjenmatt - You're welcome! Seriously, they're really fantastic. I enjoyed every single one of them. I love color, contrast, texture. They definitely caught my eye, which not everything does.
Keep photographing - you're definitely doing something right here!
Did she just say she lived with both her ex husband and bf?
It is not a fault to not have a plan for the future. The enlightened person is the one who can live in
the moment and enjoy it for what it is.
@RulerofMasons - no just the ex. I'm not that freaky
@fratmom - I'll go with that, it makes me feel good.
I have always loved her, she was one of my first new friends when I joined Xanga many moons ago!!! With her through all the craziness that was her divorce.... at one time we were even going to hook up her beautiful son Matty with my daughter!! Alas, he moved on and found a woman before my daughter ever graduated high school. LOL. But a mom can hope!!!
@BubblysLife - I love you !!!!
Ha! A shoutout to somebody I know. And one of my favorite peeps at that!
#8, too funny.
Congrats on #9!
Thanks Beth, it was good to learn more about momofjenmatt~
@twoberry - my friend Bob, we have been through a lot here on Xanga, yes? Many changes. You are still the same great guy though. One of my favorite peeps too.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - Thanks, #9 was very hard, so I'm pretty proud of that, of course getting rid of the ex was helpful. Hopefully, I can make some new xanga friends through this, many old friends have left xanga : (
Beautiful photos! And what a rewarding/challenging occupation. Thanks Beth for a great shot out! I've been missing them
@inanorchard - Thank you very much. Rewarding occupation, sometimes. But it takes a lot of disappointments to see the rewards and honestly, with kids that young they need a lot more hits before they change if they ever do. But it's always interesting and sometimes fun.
Thanks, Beth -- your shoutouts are always interesting people -- I'll have to get to know momofjenmatt!
@slmret - I hope you do. Don't go by today's entry though, that was a rant. Usually, I am light hearted. Would love new friends and look forward to getting to know new people on Xanga. New for me at least : ).
Dear Beth,
I remember Laura very well. I used to call her the Nora Ephron of Xanga. A witty, talented, selfless, wonderful woman. She will be greatly missed.
Er, sorry, Laura.@momofjenmatt - You're alive! This is a shoutout, not a tribute post. My bad.
Laura sneaked back into Xanga a little while ago, but I noticed immediately when I saw her username show up in my Ubox, and I dropped by to say howdy. She looks terrific and still has that comic touch in her writing. Thanks for giving her a shoutout.
Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool
@baldmike2004 - You my friend are one of the nicest guys on xanga, or even in real life. I love the old xangans, not old in years... well you know. These newbies seem a little intense and kind of scary radical. I laughed at this response and I am flattered. I want to enjoy Xanga again, I hope to. It got me through my strange living situation, and I met wonderful people. Well not met, but read and connected with. I get a little worked up reading some posts here though, so I need to kind of avoid the loons and just be me. : )
I've seen her around and she seems very nice. Great photographer!
I'll have to go check her out! How did I miss her?
Beautiful photography and I went on over and left my howdys:)
@EmilyMyself - Thanks so much!
@murisopsis - @Grannys_Place - Nice to meet you both
