How to Make an "Ugly Door" Fun
It is one of those fireproof doors, not attractive in any way whatsoever.
I got some Melissa and Doug's Wooden Alphabets at a discount store,
they do not fall off when the door slams shut.
(they have them HERE on Amazon too)
I also got numbers for my older nephew who is learning to multiply.
I got a box of Smethport 60 Foam Magnetic Objects

How fun! I have secuity doors on my barn. Maybe I should have put up a chore list, while the kids were covering chores for me this winter.
Or I could leave love notes for MM.
Very nice and fun way to learn.
Kids love magnets on doors and fridges. I have some on my fridge and every time a child comes into the house that is the first thing to go to. They love it.
Thats a cute idea. for those who don't have the metal doors, they could paint a wood door with the new metallic paint and then they could play too!
Way cute! I work in a doctors office and am going to show this to my supervisor as an idea for the kids play area.
I'll bet the kids just adore beautifying the ugly door!
I love that idea! I may have to figure out how I can do something similar for my grandkidlets. Thanks for the idea. Very cool! (((warm hugs)))
Heh. When my siblings and I were little we used to call my uncle Kenneth "Uncle Cano." I think it was because he's from Costa Rica so he was associated with Poas.
That's how I taught Krysten to read. I stuck letter magnets on the fridge. One week I'd put up "AT" and she'd try different letters in front and sound out the words. The next week it would be "ED" and so on. Then one day she brought a box of trash bags to me and said, "Mommy, what does 'guh-la-duh' spell?" I saw the light in her eyes the moment it clicked. "GLAD!" She took off from there and never looked back. I've always thought it was pretty wonderful that the first word she ever read on her own was "glad."
What a fun idea for the kids!
Awww, that is such a cute idea; and what a neat way to make use of an "ugly" but functional door.
This is so edifying! Watch out, Sis! The grand-nephews and nieces are about to get a good supply of these tools, when Uncle Gary hits town in late June!
Our grandkids did the same thing to our metal backdoor when they were little. I still have a box full of those little magnetic plastic letters somewhere!
THIS IS CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will have to send this idea to my daughter
my nephew loves letters like that. they bought some foam ones... and when you wet them in the bath, you can stick them on the walls of the tub! letters for every occasion!
Awwww!!!! What a great way for them to learn!!!!
That takes me back. I used to have alphabet magnets like that on the fridge. Eventually half of them fell off and went into the heating vent though... hard to spell anything with just Q's and X's and K's, ha
This is nice. When the little boy lived here there were letters and creatures all over the fridge.
The replica onsale watches and also the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. The crown situated @ 8:30 for the situation set's the in mineral crystal bezel. around time this paint can flake out or as a outcome of substitute having a traditional crown, not seem at all.
That is one smart cookie! Your door looks like a blast!
Oh these are cool and I had the plastic magnic letter and shapes on my fridge when my kids were little and they always had different things spelled out and different designs. Think I have photos of them some where.
that does sound really fun! that's something i would have LOVED as a kid <3
I thought of you at the salon the other day Beth! I was getting my hair flat ironed and when the stylist put the iron back in its slot, I noticed it had a face! I wished I had my camera, I would have taken a pic for you! And you are such a great teacher to all the kids, both elementary lessons and life lessons!
I did the exact same thing to the metal back door in my classroom years ago. The kids loved to play with magnets so it was a good way to work an additional "center" into a small cramped classroom. Plus, I would make my own magnets to go with whatever theme we were studying that week (on card stock, laminate, and then get the small peel and stick magnets for photos and there you go).
That brings back memories.....had those things on the side of my large refrigerator when the grandkids were little. It kept them entertained. They also enjoyed playing with the just plain but powerful round magnets husband brought home from work. Your door looks great!
