I was looking for a traffic pic for
MyWinningPhoto's Traffic Themewe do not have a lot of local traffic,
I would have to sit by the road for a while before a car went by.
So I decided to go to the covered bridge,
I thought that might be a photogenic spot to wait.
I had my twin niece and nephew with me ,
I told them they could go play by the creek
while I waited for the perfect photo op.
They ran down to the banks of the creek
and soon made several return trips with gathered treasures.
They ran to the van to get the nature encyclopedia
to identify a few leaves and berries.
I was so busy watching them that I missed a few photo ops
I only got one half decent pic. (I did not use this one)
As I watched them I wondered how much longer
they will think leaves, berries and broken pottery are treasures
or enjoy exploring the banks of the creek,
they just turned 11, they are growing up so fast.
Watching them still enjoying childhood and gathering junky treasures
was worth more than any real treasures I have.

This is absolutely awesome.
Every bit of it.
Do you feel like you'll get in trouble taking pictures of other people's cars? I took a picture of a chevy truck the other day that had an "antique car" tag on it (because I didn't think it was old enough for that, at least not without me being old too) and thought, I wonder if that guy would be mad that I took a picture of him/his truck. Ha.
I love this post.
Also, I like your name. Ha.
this was sweet!
but just because someone is grown up doesn't mean they lose the wonder of finding small treasures!
@raspberryjade - I still look by the creek for bits of broken plates and such and they might always do that too but as the teen yrs come I think some of the wonder will wear off.
@seedsower - Me too, love these sweet treasures. Even if it wears off through the teen years, it will return one day. You have nurtured this in them, no doubt.
I think the absolute wonder that kids have has to do with the uncluttered nature of their minds -- as we grow, our experiences diminish the wonder, but not necessarily the awe. I still enjoy the treasures to be found in and around nature ~ ~ ~
nice
How sweet that picture of them is. I have tried to give my grands those same kinds of outings. I think that is one of the reasons they love to come to Oma and Poppies house.
With you as their Auntie.... those kids are going to be smart!
I'll bet they would enjoy geocaching.
lovely children!!
this is a wondermous post, Beth. is this the river to which you used to go as a child/youth?
@ofunlo - Yes it is ,about 2 miles up creek from where I live now and about 4 miles from where I grew up.
How ironic...I'm wearing a landshark shirt right now!
BIG hugs, Lovey.
That's so funny! Living in a place where you have to make great effort to see the fabled "traffic". G-O-N-G!!!
Absolutely adorable! They seem to be very close.
Well said. And well picced.
The innocence of youth. wonderful! : )
Amen and Amen! Kids grow up way too fast I have wondered how long Payton will stay one, she has shown no real desire to grow up too fast, however Kaylin couldn't WAIT to be bigger...she was always on to the next thing before she even enjoyed the 1st...makeup to driving to dating to college to living on her own and now awaiting marriage. I was more like her, now I would give anything to have been more like Payton. Enjoying being a kid! Great post and they are such cuties!!!
I have a feeling that with you as their aunt, they won't change all that much as they grow older.
They are some lucky kids.
I enjoyed this greatly. It makes me miss my childhood. We used to go down to a friend of my grandpa's and scrounge around his paddock for bits of wood and then headed back to pops shed and bashed nails etc into the wood to make nan a present for the day. I wish I had pictures of the items we made her, she had them all lined up on this one shelf, we would make about 1 a month. A jewellery stand, a serving platter (she brought our cookies and milk for afternoon tea down on it) and a few other things made it to the shelf. They were mostly bits of ugly wood with nails and paint splattered on it but she used the ones she could and we loved every moment of it. Ahhhh. I am content.
@TheGhioniFiles - This made me content as well,so sweet to picture it all thank you!
@seedsower - You are welcome.
love treasure hunts ... what fun!! glad you caught some traffic!
I'm delighted to see your nieces and nephews growing up in such a rich environment, instead of just video games and television. They know how to see the wonderful things around them.
I am fond of children, and I don't mean that in a pedophile way. There is a chess club eight miles from my room. Against the adults I play strictly professionally. The kids are more enjoyable to play with; I am free to smile and have fun. I love kids, that dont mean I want go too far. I am willing to have sex with fifteen year old girls if it wasn't against the law. Their minds are still young, but their sexuality is awakening. Having sex with a grown woman is a battle of who can please the best. Sexual fondness with fifteen year old , is more about me giving the pleasure, me teaching, and last but not least, me in control. The kids are good stock of genes. God bless your family, nature, and.... the Amish, lol.
Better I say sixteen! Oh no, I did it again.
You need to not think about sex with young ,under aged girls and find a virgin of age whom you can help discover the joy of sex.
Love seeing them exploring and talking together. It is nice to peek into that joy of childhood.
So marvelous to see children enjoying the real world.
Now that is a whole handful of wonderful treasures. What wonderful memories you are making on for them.
I love the sweet innocence this post and pictures portray Beth!
