  • My Weekend,Homemade Kettle Corn and the Poinsettia Show

SUNDAY SHOUTOUT WILL BE BACK NEXT WEEK.

I took my two 10 yr old nieces out on Friday night and we had the best time!
    It was just plain fun.
We went to Five Guys Burgers and Fries

They have good peanuts to eat while you wait
and index cards and crayons for the kids to use.

They have a bulletin board where you can post your cards.

Then we went to the Dollar Store.
They found these fun Popcorn containers there.

They couldn't wait to get home and use them.
They asked if I knew how to make the kind of popcorn
that you get at the Fair (Kettle Corn).I thought how hard can it be?
I heated oil in a heavy pot, when it was hot I added sugar,
    then added the popcorn kernels.
When it was done  popping we added some salt and it was so good.

I googled it and I did it right.
Here is a precise recipe and directions

    KETTLE CORN
    Ingredients
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    1/4 cup white sugar
    1/2 cup unpopped popcorn kernels

    Directions
Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Once hot, stir in the sugar and popcorn.
Cover, and shake the pot constantly to keep the sugar from burning.
Once the popping has slowed to once every 2 to 3 seconds,
remove the pot from the heat and continue to shake for a few minutes
    until the popping has stopped.
Pour into a large bowl, and allow to cool,
stirring occasionally to break up large clumps.

  • I'm not much for sweets, but I do love kettle corn. Must be the sweet salty combo thing.

  • I've always wanted to make kettle corn - thank you for the recipe!

  • I would skip the sugar, but I love popcorn, and sure liked the 5 guys burger.  Had my first one last week.

  • Looks like the show is gonna be another great one Beth!

  • I love kettle corn. I may have to pick up some of the microwave variety if I ever make it to the grocery store. I would love to come to your poinsettia show, but life is pretty unsettled at the moment. Too much so to be making plans.

  • I've always wondered how kettle corn was made. I had visions of tossing it with sugar after it was popped, but that would just make it sticky. This makes much more sense!

  • Kettle corn is okay but I like salt and butter, butter, butter on my popcorn.  I can't believe how much the girls have grown up.  They are so adorable.

I'm jealous that you can make those beautiful bows.  Our poinsettas are looking good but not in full bloom yet.

  • That sounds like a wonderful Friday. Kettle corn is my favorite. The show is looking good.

  • Sounds like FUN!!  Would you believe that I work enough bits and pieces of the weekend of the Poinsettia show that I can't come.  That really stinks!!  REALLY.  Maybe I'll get downsized and can make a quick trip;).

  • My parents have that same popcorn set! Those poinsettas are beautiful. I intend on buying some this weekend and can't wait :)

  • looks like another great year for your poinsettia show!

  • Crayons are the best.

  • Beth I am always amazed at the Poinsetta Shows that you put on every year!! Who does all of the artwork and construction on the decorations and sets? I wish I had you here to help me decorate my church for Christmas!!! I love the finished product but I am already dreading the process...lol.

I can't wait to see all of the pictures of your show when you have it all put together!!! I would give anything to live close enough to see it in person!!
Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving

    Ruth Ann

  • Great weekend! Beautiful flowers!!!

  • i've never even HEARD of Kettle Corn before!

  • I get all giddy when I think of you all preparing for your Poinsetta show~ what a magical and wonderous place!

Only Beth could whip up kettle corn w/o ever making it before!  hahaha~  I would surely burn it or set the sugar on fire.

  • I love your Poinsettia show! I have a craft fair that weekend, myself, but NEXT YEAR I'm coming down for it. I'll expect Five Guys burgers and kettle corn, too  Thanks for the recipe! I'm going to try it with maple syrup and see how that goes! MUAH!

  • I bet you're their favorite aunt!!

  • joyful smiling faces, nostalgia, poinsettas, bows, candy...

i luv these kinds of updates! =)

  • @Bricker59 - you must be from canada then. haha

  • @YouTOme - Yep! I sure am!! LOL

  • I LOVE kettle corn! And that Poinsettia Show looks like fun! I like doing stuff like that around this time of year :)

  • I love watching them make kettle corn (it's the fun in watching to see if you can see the corn actually pop). I can't eat it anymore (too many carbs). The show looks like it will be a lot of fun. Please post pictures since I am sure you are not in the OC and I can't visit in person.

  • I have a girlfriend who absolutely loves kettle corn. I'll have to whip up a batch for her and put it in a fancy tin along with the recipe on the gift tag. Thanks for sharing this hun.

    {{{{{hugs}}}}}

  • I love those popcorn containers..going to look for them. Thanks for the instructions for kettle corn. Sounds so easy. Is the one day of the pointsettia show that would be better to come to be sure I meet you??? I can make it on any of the dates. I am so happy to have it to look forward to!

  • @Bricker59 -

    (haha!!)squared :D

  • I haven't had kettle corn in ages. Looks wonderful!

You make your own bows? I'd love to learn how to make them. I took a class once, but it was a loooong time ago and I've forgotten.  Do you remember in the 'olden days' when gals used to wear ribbons in their hair? I'd like to do that sometime. I miss the simpler times.

Have missed you, dear friend! ***big warm squishy hugs***

  • Wow! I'm impressed with the Poinsettia show (and ones frome the past too)! Wish I could see them in person... Have fun and enjoy the glitter of the season!

  • My head captioned this post All things magical..

  • I remember as a teenie tot the poinsettas at the Ark Bible Chapel. Such a long time ago!
