An Amazing Quilt Show
I had two wonderful Home Ec teachers in Senior High School
(which is more than I can say for Junior High) ,
Mrs McCloskey and Mrs Fulmer.
I recently saw Mrs McCloskey, who mentioned that
Mrs Fulmer was having an Art Quilt Show
at a local art studio ("Studio B ) in Boyertown"
The show is called Frayed Edges
Mrs Mcloskey asked if I would like to attend the show with her,
I was very pleased to accept the invitation.
On Friday evening we went to see the show,
it was incredible... colorful, fun, vivid and unique.
Each quilt was rich in color and full of details.
Here is Mrs Fulmer, standing in front of her 'Lupine' Quilt.
Years ago I saw Mrs Fulmer at a farmer's market
when I was with my mom and a few aunts,
I introduced her as "My old Home Ec teacher", she corrected me
"Say 'Former Home Ec Teacher', it sound better."
Ha, yes it certainly does.My favorite quilt at the show is 'Ladies in Waiting'.
She said "They waited so long to get finished".
Her creativity is so evident in every detail...
trinkets and mediums,
patterns,edges,
the colors and textures of the fabric and thread she used. This quilt, as many of the ones displayed were 'challenges'.
This one has to include fish in it.
SushiRadishes For Tea
This challenge needed to include a number of things;
radishes, a salamander, eyes etc.I did not get the name of this one
Hybrid LilyThis challenge was 'a song'
Silvery Moon
Maine HillsThis is quilt of her actual 'Shed Door'. The photo is on the back of the quilt.
She said she combined he two favorite things, gardening and quilting.I had many sewing classes with Mrs. Fulmer and I loved them all.
The most useful thing I learned that I remember is how to put a lining in a coat,
I have relined so many coats over the years for people, mostly older people.
I am afraid the days are gone where people buy a good winter coat
and take care of it and continue to wear it until it wears out.
Once I made a beautiful maroon dress jacket in Tailoring
which was an advanced sewing class that Mrs Fulmer taught.
The jacket had pockets and a lining, I got an A on it.
I wore it for the first time to the movies
and the ushers had the same jackets on...
that was the kiss of death for that jacket.
Mrs Fulmer taught us how to do things right
and even though I had to redo things a few times ,
I learned how to sew well and I still think of her when I sew.

Quilts are such beautiful art. My favorites are Shed Door and Silvery Moon. Looks like you had a great time!
I come from a quilting mother who highly appreciates the more artistic quilt, and I can immediately see the gorgeous craftsmanship present in this gallery. But what I truly loved about this post was the admiration and respect you have for your former teacher. Beth, you are a wonderful xanga to read.
Those are beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Beth!
Omg, I love love quilts. Thanks for the pics!!
Ahhhhh, and if I was just a wee bit patient ((laughing)) I could have seen them all at once. heh...LOVE them all over again! Great show, Beth. Wish I was with you. muah.
@Harpos_Mark - Did you sneak a peek? Hah!
@seedsower - yes! and reced most of them ((laughing)) soooo wonderful! This woman has a very big talent. Thanks for sharing - and for skyping last night. LOVED talking with you.
Those quilts are amazing and the makers extremely talented.
Oh my goodness Beth, those quilts are gorgeous, especially with all of the detail. If I had to choose my favorite, I don't think I could. I have several quilts hanging in my apartment. When I was little, my mom was in a quilting bee and I would go with her. I remember all the ladies sitting at a big long table, quilting, and I would be running around looking at everyone's work and crawling around their legs under the table, as scraps of material were falling all around! Quilts evoke such wonderful memories, don't they?!!!! Thanks for sharing and your teacher looks so sweet and kind.
Oh Beth...I have never...EVER seen such beautiful work!!! I didn't know that this type of art in quilting existed!!! You should get the Barn Door piece...makes me think of all of the pictures of doors that you have posted here!! I think my favorite is probably Maine HIlls although the first one, taken with your teacher seems to be really spectacular too!!! Thank you for sharing this with us!!

The detail is stunning... these are beautiful!
I love the Hybrid Lily and the Shed Door. Beautiful!!! Kudos to Mrs. Fulmer!
Oh My Gosh! The quilts are amazing! I can't imagine the time and work that went into these. My favorites are the Lupines and the Garden Gate! Just gorgeous!
You are going to make me one, right?
Those are all so beautiful! That is one talented lady. The Hybrid Lily and Maine Hills are my favorites. How does one find the time and patience to do such detailed work?
woah, i'm in quilting heaven! hugs. hope you are doing well, Bethy girlie.
@Aloysius_son - harharhar. i totally wish too! lol
Those are the most spectacular quilts I've ever seen! A couple of them look like you could actually use them.
I like the Maine Hills one.
I like shed door
I loved this show! Thanks for sharing it with us. The older I get the more I'm falling in love with the artsy quilts. Get my hands on fabric and I'm in heaven. ~Polly~
Wish I'd had such a teacher. I took Home Ec only once, the required minimum, because the teacher was so terrible, unless you were a cheerleader. The rest of us got the substandard machines and no (or very reluctant) guidance at all. It was a horrible class for me, but I have regretted not being able to sew at all my whole life because of it.
Those quilts are fantastic!
Oh the work and passion that go into these quilts, really shows. I esp love the eye glasses on the Ladies in Waiting quilts.
hahahaha re: the kiss of death for that jacket. More than once I've eaten in a restaurant and found myself wearing the same thing as the waiter (I'm fond of black, white and khaki).
Wow!
@WildWomanOfTheWest - We are so much alike it is scary! That is just what I liked!
What stunning quilts!
@seedsower - *s-i-s-t-e-r, you've been on my mind~ s-i-s-t-e-r, we're two of a kind*~~~
these are awesome! I've never heard of such a show, but I would love to go to one!
These are amazing!!!!!!!!
These are amazing works of art. How awesome to get to see her today, and how she has developed her gifts and talents. What an artist! I wish my home ec sewing class had taught me such skills. I did love my home ec teacher, though: Mrs. Topping. She was a hoot!
I love quilts too. Two of my aunts (my mom's side) are really good at sewing and knitting. Oh, I want get some quilts.

These are beautiful, Beth. I love quilts, and, though I've never done any artistic quilting, I have made many small strip quilts. These are all too nice to pick out a favorite!!! Thank you for sharing them with us!
Oh the work that went into these. Makes my hands hurt just thinking about it!
These are so beautiful! I can't decide on a favorite. Hybrid Lily, Silvery Moon, Maine Hills, and Shed Door - just gorgeous!

)
Quilting is the Crack Cocaine of Crafts and I'm so hooked!
Love the quilts!
I love the traditional pattern quilts, but I have to tell you, these are amazing!!! Ladies in waiting is so whimsical and fun. And Silvery Moon . .. the textures are wonderful. You can probably guess, though, my favorite is the radish challenge . . . the detail is exquisite . . . I just love it to death. Thank you so much for posting these pix. It was sheet delight to read through and admire her work.

I'm really impressed! It sound like writing prompts except with sewing. How awesome is that?!?
They're so pretty ^.^
I love Maine Hills and Shed Door, but they are all beautiful.
Such talent!
Stunning stitchery! Seems you were blessed to be taught by the best.
One of my best friends taught me to quilt by hand. Up to that point I'd only made quilts on machine. It's fun, relaxing, and peaceful to hand quilt. I've enjoyed it.
I've always LOVED quilts and admire anyone who can piece them together with love.
Thank you for this article, pretty helpful information.
