This Old House
They are tearing down one of my favorite old houses .
I stopped there to get some photos last spring and again on Monday..
I paired the pics in sets of similar views
The top from last year and the one below from Mon,
it in the midst of being torn down.

i like that you did some of these in b/w as it just seems that things like this should be shown that way.
@speraquodvereor - The first pics in the sets of two are it abandoned from about a year ago, the second pic is how it was yesterday in the midst of tearing it down.
I really like that first picture. I thought of the tv show this old house when i saw that title. Haha. Thanks for sharing. :0)

The ones that show the wallpaper made me feel very sentimental....a lady at some time hung that paper with care...& now this. It makes me see my house & my life in a new view.

The pictures make it look pretty. I like old houses too. They always look like they should be explored.
I luv the photo's as it brings back memorys of growing up in a small country town cheers.
I get tired of progress meaning that the old is thrown away to make something "new and better". Why not repair and refurbish and rennovate? There is such charm and warmth in the old and sturdy homes of the past. Great photos. The before and after shots were paired beautifully.
As a 'history person' these photos make me so sad.

@J_P_Savage - @speraquodvereor - Thanks for taking the time to watch the videos,I made "Daddy's Hands" with photos I took as a tribute to the men at church,most of the pics were taken of their hands and with their children. I sand the song in church on Father's Day with my mandolin,I go to a very plain little Mennonite church and I wasn't sure how some of the older ones would react,I showed the pix as I sang and it was very emotional,they are not ones to applaud in church but they did and stood and that was an honor beyond compare. Holly Dunn wrote a beautiful song that reaches out across all generations and strikes a sentiment within most people.

It's a beautiful tribute. What a heartfelt offering to your congregation. Very moving. I've always thought people's hands are as expressive as their faces and eyes. Everyone's move differently. And of course what one DOES often speaks louder than what one SAYS...

It's a shame that they are tearing it down, but it would probably cost a small fortune to repair or replace all the damaged wood in the old house. It's almost impossible to find anyone that even does that kind of work anymore.

Once owning~ or did it own me~ an historical home from 1830~ it breaks my heart to think of it's neglect~ and future destruction. sigh~ A season for everything, I guess.
How do you feel about such things~ do you wish they could be restored for always~ or is easy to let it go?
That was a big house, apparently expanded in two stages with the ell. It's a shame to see it go, although as a remodeler I can understand not wanting the headache and expense of gutting and refurbishing an old building. No doubt some totally unremarkable modern house will be put in its place. Too bad.

@WildWomanOfTheWest - I would restore it in a heartbeat....why build a new one that will never have that character like using the stone from the fields etc ,the out buildings were well kept.
Are they going to rebuild?
Great pictures; I wish they could have saved that house, but I'm sure they explored that and the safety issues probably were to great to overcome.
It's so sad to when beautiful old place like that are torn down. I'm glad you were able to capture it.

The brick and stucco gave this house about 50 years more life than those old wooden houses I saw as a kid. Still, I doubt if Bob Villa would touch it. I hope someone will salvage the brick, it would look great in another structure like a restaurant.

@seedsower - YES!! The place we are hoping to buy after we sell our current place~ is a converted barn with native Oklahoma stone~ and wood lined walls with trees from the property. It has the original barn window/door opening~ and the original pulley hanging from the front hay loft door. Makes me happy sigh~ knowing that someone just didn't tear it down~ and was able to restore it. Hopefully just for me. lol

It makes me sad to see old buildings being torn down. I always think about the memories that were made in them.
It just tugs at my heart strings. I hate, absolutely hate to see buildings torn down.
What a beautiful home ths was. I wonder how something so beautiful could be let fall to such disrepair . . .

It's a shame to see that go... as buddly47 noted, it costs so much more to repair than to just rebuild. I hate that so many things have become "disposable". I, too, liked the glimpses of the wallpaper. Beautiful pictures!
It will be interesting to see what they put up in it's stead... A generic McMansion, probably?

I am very sad to see this. I wish people would restore and not tear down. I mean the house lasted this long with out up keep. I'd like to see a new house match that. They break down after a year or two of use. I'm glad you photographed it though so you can look back and remember it was there.
