Sunday Shoutout: the_rocking_of_socks
This weeks Shoutout is: Amanda
the_rocking_of_socks
Tell me a bit about yourself
There really isn't a lot to tell about me, honestly.
I've been a stay-at-home mom for 2 years.
Occasionally I will do photo shoots of my friends or my two little nieces
to make a little money, or I'll clean my sister's apartment.
I play World of Warcraft with my husband and our friends.
I'm terribly OCD, and I reorganize the house on a weekly basis.
I'm hoping to go back to school after we get our taxes filed
and finish my psychology degree.
I like lolcats. If you've not seen them, you should =)
I also make jewelry, candles, and bath gels and body lotions.
I started it this past year, and I'm actually pretty decent at it!
That's pretty much it.Favorite quote:
"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge.
That myth is more potent than history.
That dreams are more powerful than facts.
That hope always triumphs over experience.
That laughter is the only cure for grief.
And I believe that love is stronger than death."
--Robert Fulgham
Favorite books:
"All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten"--Robert Fulgham (surprise),
"Running With Scissors" and "Dry"--Augusten Burroughs,
"Bitter With Baggage Seeks Same"--Sloane Tanen
Favorite movies:
Anything from Disney and Pixar studios, Avatar, anything in the sci-fi,
comic book, and horror genres.
Favorite songs:
Far too many to choose from,
so we'll just say everything from Shinedown and Audioslave.
Favorite photos taken:
My butterfly and pigeon pictures I've used in my layouts,
Damon playing in snow for the first time
What brought me to Xanga?:
My friend Megan. She introduced me to Xanga during our senior year,
back in 2002. She no longer posts on hers,
and I've used several different accounts over the last few years.
I'm glad she brought me here, or I would've never met my husband. =)
Time of day I like most:
Food time!
Hobbies:
I like to scrapbook occasionally, I learned how to knit this year,
and I love to go out and take pictures when the weather is nice.
Best advice given?:
I don't think I've ever been given good advice.
Everything I've learned and had to deal with, I've had to do on my own.
I love her creativity...
See it here...I'll Never Stop Playing With My Food....
her forthright honesty and her ability to express herself so well.
See it here...Xanga's New Hot Button
Abortion seems to be a popular topic around here lately,
so I thought I'd join in.
If you do not know her, visit Socks and say Hi!

Aw. I love these, they are sooo sweet.
I've just started reading her within the last week or so and she's nice. That egg pic made me lol. Haha. ;0)
Cool... I wish she would've elaborated on the 'never would have met my husband' (were it not for Xanga) portion. Intriguing.
very interesting person. strangely enough, I just visited her post yesterday for the first time!
j.
LOL~ OKAY OKAY, I'LL TALK!!! I enjoy Amanda and her perspective. She found her husband through xanga?
Hey! Cool! I'll have to check her out!
Those are Mourning Doves, not pigeons!!
I'm friends with socks, she has things to offer!
I love that you do this!
@Bricker59 - Is that what they are? I learned something new today. =)
Thanks so much for this, Beth. It was pure awesomeness.
@the_rocking_of_socks - I love Mourning Doves, they sound like they're crying, and their wings squeak when they fly.Really, they squeak!
Hi Beth! I look forward to these posts every week. I actually met Socks this week . . . .and I think I'm already in love with Damon!
@jacksoncroons - You met her here or in person?Damon is entirely adorable!
@Passionflwr86 - @WildWomanOfTheWest - It was on my first Xanga account that we met. I was telling my friends how I wanted to audition for a musical, and he popped out of nowhere and started messaging me. Eventually we met, and we married six months later. We'll be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary this summer.
@the_rocking_of_socks - That is amazing!!! I would be interested to know if there are other couple who have met here on xanga~
I TOTALLY dig this blogger!
@WildWomanOfTheWest - John (one of the owners) met his wife on Xanga.
@seedsower - only on line . . . .for now!!!
@WildWomanOfTheWest & @Passionflwr86 - We met online via Xanga. :] Honestly, it isn't that interesting; however, it happened very quickly and we're still going strong with our son... That's the little star in the photo.
We were in the same city, mostly, and we just happened across one another. A story best saved for another time.
She is a cool young lady. I learned a bit about her when she commented on one of my posts. Very hard things she has had to deal with in life, strong young lady I would say. Amanda, are you REALLY 6'4", thats awesome. Tall is COOL!
Do people ask you why you aren't playing in the WNBA like they ask me why I'm not playing in the NBA? There's more to basketball than height....geez!
I have never been there, but am on my way...
@UnworthyofHisgrace - Yes, I'm really 6'4". People always bother me with silly questions like "Did you play basketball? What about volleyball? Do you model? You should model, you're tall enough to be a model!"
They fail to see how terribly uncoordinated I am and how uncomfortable I am in front of a camera. I much prefer to be behind it.
@the_rocking_of_socks - When my wife and I were dating everywhere we went people would ask how tall I was. She bought me a t-shirt that said 6foot 10 on it because she got so tired of it. When I would wear it they would still ask "Are you REALLY 6'10" it was like "HERE'S YOUR SIGN"
@UnworthyofHisgrace - Hah! I've got an uncle that's 6'10", and a half-uncle (my mom's half-brother) that's 7'2". I've never met the latter, but my mom's mentioned him a few times. I haven't seen the first one in about 15 years. I don't even know if he's still around or not.
Great shout out! I am off to say hello!
@seedsower - I love it!
@UnworthyofHisgrace - One of my favorite questions that I get asked is, "How do you deal with her being 2 inches taller than you?" But, until that question is asked, I really don't notice... maybe I should invest in a shirt like that for Socks :]
@ihaveawhistle - hahahaha! Are you her husband?Cool if so, nice to meet you! It doesn't matter what you put on a shirt or anything, people are GONNA ask no matter! This is bad, but a friend once told me when someone asks "Hows the weather up there?" I should spit on them and say "It's raining"
I would never do that, but the thought sure cracked me up
I've just started to read her and I think I'll be reading her a lot more now. Thanks for recognizing great bloggers, Beth!
I'll have to check her blog out. Thanks for sharing.
I love having my socks rocked!
She sounds swell to me.
Very neat post. I have just recently got to know her.
