In the Cemetery (Scavenger Hunt #32)
The MooncatBlue ( And Nelson too) Scavenger Hunt Throw Down II.
32. Something inspired by what you see in this photo by Seedsower.I have wandered the dirt roads of this old cemetery over and over
since the day they laid my lover to rest beneath this red Georgia soil .
When I weep here I am not alone, the silvery spanish moss
hanging down from the giant live-oak trees weeps with me,
it sways as if beckoning me to come seek comfort in the oak's ancient curved boughs.
I know every monument that keeps watch over the dead,
placed here in loving memory of the ones they guard.
They have stood strong and faithful lo these many years,
some bleached white in the sun and some grown green with moss in the shade.
I look at the smooth stone knowing that many hands have touched it.
The ones who cut the stone, the one who carved it finding the beauty within,
the one who placed it and the ones who have mourned beside it.
I run my hand over it's smoothness and feel the familiar curves and planes that I have felt many times.
These sentinels give me hope as if to say we stand here day and night watching,
so you can go on.
And in that moment I am able to do that...to continue on.

Oddly enough, whenever I think of your Xanga, this is the first photo to come to mind.
I think this poem fits it very well. Simple and elegant.
This was beautiful... both the photo and the poetry.
I love running my hands over stone sculptures. There is something peaceful and lovely about that.
Beth this is the perfect photo to go with the writing. I can see the sentinels taking their guard and safely standing watch while the loved on rests in peace!
Very nice!!
Very nice! I may have to post a few of my own cemetery pictures!

This is so beautiful Beth . . . I think it's special because it gives us insight into what you see and think about when you take your photographs . . .
This is a special one Beth.
Truly special.
Now a days there are many people that make all their own arrangements including picking out their tombstones. People years from now can imagine the hands of the buried rubbing the stone that marks their grave and wonder what went through their minds as they felt it. This is a wonderful post! You're a very good writer!
nice. =) i felt as though i was there with you.
Perfect!
wonderful!
Beautiful!
I'm so glad you wrote this piece to go with your pic~ LOVE IT. Writing it in first person~ perfect.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - I am not much of a writer, thanks for apppreciating the effort.
Touching.
Thank you so much for your donation. You've received 2 entrys into the drawing.
This is beautiful
@seedsower - I think you sell yourself short~ everyone has words~ the beauty is how our hearts express them~ individually and uniquely.
Its amazing what poetry can do it touches the heart thank you.
Wonderful - both poem and photo
Perfectly expressed - they watch so that others can move forward instead of looking back. Absolutely a beautiful idea.
All I can say is wow!!! I have so often wished that I could capture thoughts and feelings like that and put them to paper but it just doesn't happen!! I say you should start using your wonderful photos once a week and writing something to go along with them like that...what a treat that would be for all of us!!
