Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
My mom just got DirectTV for us all, she could not stand living in Hooterville
without Fox News for one more day!
I watched a show about cheese, they had a segment on where to get
the best grilled cheese sandwiches.
I was thinking "How much can they do with a Grilled Cheese Sandwich?"
In the summer when we have fresh tomatoes we add a huge slice to a grilled cheese,
that is about as far a I have ventured...but...
WOW!!
They can do A LOT with a grilled cheese sandwich!!
I saw one that looked so good I had to make it at home and it was delicious.
I started reading different recipes,
I saw a recipe with avocado in it.
I decided to combine the two recipes.
Here it goes....
Spread garlic butter on the sourdough bread
Press it in shredded Parmesan cheese
Place it cheese side down in the pan,add slices of cheese to the side up in the pan .
I used I used Swiss and Provolone
Then do the same thing to the other side of the sandwich,I used Munster and Cooper Sharp
for that side. I added avocado too.
When they are melted put them together and make one sandwich
It was so good!!
HERE are
10 Swoon-Worthy Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Someone sent in this recipe
"I really like Cheez Whiz on toast." Source
that just made me laugh'
Remember this classic scene?
From 'Benny and Joon' ?
HERE is a post on how to do that.THE BEST TIP FOR MAKING A GOOD GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH
IS TO MAKE IT ON LOW HEAT SLOWLY.

I am drooling over that sandwich right now, as I much on my carrot and celery sticks!
mmmmmm looks yummy!
that looked delicious!! I cant believe you got cable!! you may never leave the house!!!
I am so going to keep this in mind when I next make grilled cheese!
but with bacon!
Damn. That looks delish.
yum! looks so good
Congrats on the cable! That sandwich looks wonderful! I love how it has layers of cheese, yum! It's not nearly as creative, but I like grilled cheese with chopped onions and pickle relish!
Kathi
Yum~ I make them with guacamole. My kids want to fry up smore grilled sandwiches.
That just aint right. Lorilily made me a grilled cheese sandwich about 30 minutes ago and there weren't no avacado on it... or swiss cheese... or provolone... or parmasan... or garlic butter... or sourdough bread. I will have to send her over here for lessons.
What? Did you just say something??? I could have swore I just heard you say, "Well why don't you just fix one yourself?"
I will have you know dear sister, that's not the way we do things in this house. I beg and she caves in every once in a while. That's the way it works in this house.
That looks even better than the grilled cheese I make for myself. Does the topside cheese actually melt?
fuh oooooduh!
Direct TV, just in time for Psych on Wednesday night! Your mom rocks!
The sandwich looks delicious, but all that cheese... man, getting old sucks so bad!
Lorilily just told me she doesn't like avacado! What is wrong with her???
Fantastic!!
Best. Comfort food. Ever.
That looks SO. YUMMY. I'll have to try this when I can have dairy again!!!
I was wondering what to make for lunch and now I know, mmmm!
I'm a fan of gouda and sliced apple grilled cheese...or even getting impatient and just stuffing my mouth with slices of gouda and apple. Yum!
*drool*
i like to be creative with my grilled cheese sandwiches, but i've never been *that* creative. i usually just add turkey with the cheese or ham... or sometimes i'll just make a grilled tomato and cheese
darnit you made me hungry
making a grilled cheese fancy is fun. I also make my french toast like a sandwich too and fill it with cream cheese and some strawberry jam!!
i am not fond of avacado.
mine i make is pretty basic. but i do like to use sourdough, but have used rye too. got to use real butter! and i usually use a sharp chedder with either swiss or jack. and yes low heat as it has to melt.
now ya got me hungry for grilled cheese.
my guess you are feeling better?? hope so.
and i love benny and joon!!!
looks delish!!! i just watched "Benny & Joon" again last week and 'member that scene ... works for me!! 8~P
@Roadkill_Spatula - I browned nicely and melted enough to blend in.
@buddy71 - My side hurts a lot when I cough,I heard and felt something pop there. but the rest is better, thanks for asking.
Oooo, that looks so good!
@seedsower - you may have "popped" a rib and it will take some time for that to heal. but glad the rest is doing better.
You are the third person to talk about grilled cheese today.
Elita and I had grilled cheese sandwiches on whole wheat bread, browned with a little butter on each side and tomator soup.
When I worked at the record factory in the cafeteria I used to get a grilled cheese sandwich, 3 different ways, alternating. Cheese and tomato, cheese and bacon and cheese, tomato and fresh spinach leaves.
I like all 3. I saw on Big Daddy's House grilled cheese with olive oil brushed on the outside of the bread instead of butter and the cheese was mozzarella.
On Paula Dean she used mayo brushed on the outside of the bread and Swiss, ham and turkey but that is more of a meat sandwich than grilled cheese.
OOO.....I want to try it.
Oh man does that look yummy! Wish I had come over here earlier to read this ... coulda gone out to pick stuff up to make 'em myself! lol And hubby and I LOVE avocados. They're fattening, but good for you at the same time. Thanks for the idea! =)
!! Wow that looks wonderful!!I can dream....
Holy Lactose Intolerance Batman...I would have to include a cup of grapes and a half box of Lactaid to the recipe!
Soooo what did the doc say?
I'm glad you're feeling a little better. I, on the other hand, am in anguish since i can't eat one of them sandwhiches RIGHT NOW!!! mmmmmm looks so good. I'll give it a try.
@lupus_lady - Doc said I have a cracked rib,gave me cough med w/codine
and I had high white cell's in blood count, need to do another round of the Z-pack. This is what I get for saying I never get sick!!
@AliasUndercover - I am making Mildred one of then for her supper, she called at 3:30 and was ready for it already...lol.
I told her to gnaw on her sunflower seeds or something else for a bit. She makes me laugh!! I would have made it but I was heading out to the Dr.
Your post prompted a memory. When I was little we always put jelly on our grilled cheese. We had them once a week and always with jelly. So-----In high school they served them once and I looked all over for the jelly. When I sat down at the table I asked --where is the jelly?.. and everyone looked at me like I had gone bonkers.........I did not realize that that is not how everyone eats grilled cheese:)
Oh no, my dad used to crack his ribs and broke a few and I know it's painful! (He had hard to control diabetic reactions.) I sure hope the cough med helps. It worked well for me but ooo I get so constipated from it.
that looks sooo good.
@lupus_lady - Oh my,something else to look forward to!!
@seedsower - Sorry hopefully it will not effect you that way...just an FYI!
@lupus_lady - Oooo just ralized you have already overloaded on the cheese....
@lupus_lady - Haha Oh my...I will let ya know if everything comes out OK!!
hm. can you make me one of those? FOR A WEEK?
ryc: no, but she had a lint roller!
Um no need for that, ha!
@TheBigShowAtUD - I could and would, but you are a little west of here,I will meet ya in Pittsburg.
Thank you so MUCH for posting this! I have a George Foreman grill and this made me so HUNGRY and I am going to really experiment!
Ohhhh, do want! Om nom nom nom!
Wow!! that looks good. But if you eat that while you're watching Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity it will clog your arteries and muddle your brain.
@goodbuilder - I will make one for ya next time ya come in Uncle Goody,it is really good.
mm I love swiss
some serious YUMMY going on here. LOVE Benny and June ((sigh)) Will have to try this recipe. Thanks.
That looks like a mighty fine sammich! I just may have to try it . . . anything with avocado's is blissful. And I loved that scene from Benmy and Joon!
this post inspired my dinner tonight! thanks!
Are you a mom? Because moms always make the best grilled cheese sandwiches. But this one knocks all of the one's that mom ever made when I was a kid out of the park!
I am an auntie/great aunt 74 times and counting ,I have babysat many of the nieces and nephews often and made many grilled cheese sandwiches for the kiddies but this one beat them all.
Im not a fan of avocado, but that looks and sounds delicious! I might have to plan on grilled cheese for a dinner next week!
i see lots of weird stuff in those sandwitches,,, but i dont see any pickles,,, whats a grilled cheese sandwitch wihout pickles???
Oh Beth, you shouldn't have. Now the soup I had for dinner, is telling my stomach, that it wants company.
I am gonna try this tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.
Oh yummy. Thank you for the recipes.
And use real butter!
MMM That looks so yummy I want to lick my screen!
that looks SUPER YUMMY!!!!
Any post that mentions Benny & Joon is a notch above the rest! Throw in grilled-cheese sandwiches, and we definitely have a winner on our hands.
I was gonna ask how you were feeling, but just saw your reply to someone elses inquiry. I' glad you are better! Hope you are done with this bronchitis soon. It is one of my most dreaded diseases.
This is making me hungry! When you add a tomato slice, do you add it before you grill the sandwich or after?
@fratmom - I put a big tomato slice between two pieces of cheese(Colby Jack) and then grill it,it is really good!!
Mmm that one with the green peppers looks good...
Since bread is a thing of the past for me, I won't be having any more grilled cheese sandwiches! That makes me so sad. I used to love me a nice grilled cheese , tomato and bacon sandwich! On Rye!
mmm I want one BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well, this is some serious yumminess! Thanks.
Thanks Beth!
I came through your highlights blog. I want that sandwich. Now. And I have no ingredients in the house. But wow!!!
