Have you ever gone to a place that has been left the way it was
when the last person was there half a century ago or longer?
Ever since I read about Miss Havisham and her decaying wedding feast
left untouched in "Great Expectations" in eighth grade
I have been fascinated with places where time stood still.
Like the ghost town of
Bodie,
(HERE is my post of Bodie.)
There is an old mill near here that is as it was,
I had some visitors from Xanga yesterday,
we went to the mill, this is the office.
bonzojferardi and his twin brother
blagodat only live in the one county away.
I have wanted to meet them ever since I started reading their posts.
Yesterday they came for lunch.
It is amazing how much you know about people from reading their blogs,
they were not strangers.
The twins were happy to meet grow up twins.
We took them to see an old mill and some other local landmarks.
Here are a few photos, we had a wonderful time.

That's a wonderful photograph!
A far cry from offices today isn't it, where we have all these cushy couches and chairs for comfort. Maybe thats another reason we have gotten so lazy as a nation, I don't know.We think we have it tough, be really, we have no clue what tough IS or was I guess I should say!
WHO!? Who came to visit? Oh I am jealous... I want to visit again too!
Were's all of the office clutter? I think someone knew you were coming and cleaned up!
@angi1972 - Check my last pulse, to see who.
I bragged on you to them...how wonderful you are and how much I love ya!
@saintvi - It was the natural light that made that so nice.
I hope someone comes in and dusts once in a while, tho!
Awesome picture!
@UnworthyofHisgrace - I totally agree with you! I'd also add that those CEO's who sit in those swanky offices and whose companies we are now bailing out would have no clue as to what to TRULY make of this picture!
@Mother_Moonie - You got that right!
@UnworthyofHisgrace - nor did they have webcams and pc's and msn....
Ooooo....xanga visitors.... Great pic!
Verrryyyyy nice. Very nice indeed.
@bonzojferardi - Thanks!
Beth you use the light so well, its a great photo!!!
I grew up not far from Bodie (just over the border in Nevada). I read your previous post and wanted to tell you the pictures are outstanding. Thanks for sharing.
untouched for so long. that's neat. did you change your profile pic? it feels different. (yes, feels)
That is remarkable and I would love to see it.
That is exactly why I just have to go to Pompeii, which remained buried for over 1600 years!!!
Great photo! I love old stuff!
My bedroom looks abandoned too.,.. Occasionally I go into an attic or basement that haven't had anyone visit it for years. The amount of dust there is dangerous for those who are breathing challenged...
I wonder if you ever had a bad year of Poinsettas? Seems like those plants are pretty tough. Hopefully the recession doesn't harm your poinsetta business...
beautiful. I love untouched places too.
i would very much enjoy seeing that.
You are so talented with your camera...you have such an eye. Have you ever exhibited your work?
nice photos and folks
Sounds like a fun day...I love the weather vane!
RYC: I grew up in Tonopah and Mom lived the last 20 years of her life in Bishop. Small world.
Re this post: beautiful pictures. What part of Pennsylvania is this in?
Absolutely delightful to see what you "saw". Although I appreciated the tour, I would have liked to had more time to snoop with my camera.
beautiful photos as always! and what fun to meet someone you know from Xanga!
What fun! And, of course, you once again make me wish we lived nearer to you.
GREAT pics!! As usual....
I just love love love your pictures!! You are so talented!
Very nice!
Howdy! I saw that you stopped by the Campfire earlier (thanks for the comment!), and I wanted to drop in and let you know that it was great to see you there, and you're welcome back anytime!
Cowboy
Ah, I am succumbing! I've seen your smile on many of the sites of mutual acquaintances for some time now....but I finally was pulled in when you met Bonzo and Blagodat! I didn't know you were a photographer! Some stunning images here...I especially like 2, 3, and 8! Wonderful!
Great Place!!
The very last picture is so interesting.
Those are some awseome pictures and I have been to places like that. Have you ever heard of Bolt Castle in the Thousand Islands?
This is wonderful to 'investigate' the old places. People from those era's would be appalled at our clutter.
I wonder what a picture of a place like "under the bed' would look like with all the dust in place. LOL
Cool!!!!
A great old place, indeed! The best historical site I ever visited for this sense of "you are there" was Edison's laboratory in East Orange, NJ. (Ironically, I was in a school in West Orange today!) Back when we went there, it was still exactly the same way it had been when they closed it up. There were still open beakers of acid on the counters! I understand it's been made less risky now, but wow -- what a feeling, like the researchers had just left for lunch.
Your "eye" is brilliantly evident.
Thanks for lunch! It was splendid. The whole day was great!
Hires! Mmmm!
@ideaguy - I love the Edison workshop,I use to take my Sunday school class there every few years,it is an incredible place.
I grew up spending my summers at a place call Phelps in MN. The is an old restored mill there. It is my one of my favorite places in the world. Your photos bring back great memories for me!!
I suddenly remembered her first name--it's Felicitas.
Spectacular.
I love places that are untouched by people over time as well. That first photo is absolutely amazing.
