  • Weird Talent

I suppose that most of us have weird talents.
My sister can belch the entire alphabet  and my best friend could belch  part of the Preamble to The Constitution,
    which she learned from
    Schoolhouse Rock.

The short cartoons taught my generation about government, history, grammar, science, and math. They were on ABC every Saturday morning between cartoons.
We looked forward to them and  loved them.
We all tried to be the first to memorize the songs.
I still know most of them.

My weird talent is that I can write upsidedown , backwards and with both hands at the same time in any and reverse directions.
I take notes in church writing upsidedown

Here is a Christmas card that I made out of a border that I doodled during a church council  meeting.I did the calligraphy by hand.

My nephew’s weird talent is that he is very flexible.

  • I’m first, how weird is that?

  • Chris and I can both write backwards..I’ve never tried up side down..

  • Ahhhhh that’s cool that you can write like that.. I can barely write legible with my left hand, and I’m left-handed!

  • Ouch! Hope he doesn’t get stuck! You have pretty handwritting both ways. I doodle too. Today I doodled a picture for a kid in the nursery.

  •  oh gosh, i miss school house rock!

  • i loved the school house rocks stuff!

i don’t know what weird talent i have…but i was told today that my smile makes everything good.

  • No weird talents for me.  I just focus to be a good wife and mom.

  • I think I missed out on the weird talent boat.  I think it’s fascinating that you can writein so many different ways.  My writing is barely legible the “right” way!

  • i can lift each eyebrow independently of the other, touch my toungue to my nose, cross my toes without touching them with my hands…that’s all i can think of for now…

  • I’m not sure that I have any weird talents.  I remember the schoolhouse rock…. memories!
    *sparkle

  • I’m just weird in general.  I think THAT is a talent!  LOL

  • RYC: I’m assuming you were asking about “Who?” We have it in our “Old School Hymnal” it’s a pretty general song that i think most denominations would accept… i’ll throw you a line or two from it…

“Who flung the stars out into space and holds them in their proper place? Who like a curtain stretched the sky and made a place for birds to fly? Who sends the wind and sun and rain to nourish fields of golden grain? Who forms the seeds that make our wheat and gives us daily bread to eat?

  • You can write upside down better than I can write right side up! LOL!

  • your handwriting upside down is better than mine right side up, but oh well. heh. :-p a weird talent?! I lack a weird talent, but I think i’m pretty talented with normal things sometimes, so that’s good. Compensatory, perhaps? but good.

anyhow, ryc, I think so too :: you must have one sassy looking gastroenterologist (i thinkt hat’s what you said? haha)

  • I have thought and thought and I honestly don’t think I have a weird talent. .-( I think by the time God was done with your family, He didn’t have any more left to give away! LOL! You are amazing! My brain doesn’t work well with even reading something upside down— let alone coordinating my hand to write!

  • My weird talent is that I can pass as normal.

  • that is amazing….how do you do that??????

i dont think i have any talents that are notable

  • In my younger years, I could put my heels/ankles behind my head/neck . . . I’ve always wished/wanted to be able to burp on command.  That’s so cool!  Well, not really, but yes.

ryc . . . I haven’t seen Hairspray yet . . . I wonder if it’s still playing around here; if it is, I might try catching after work one day this week.

  • I don’t have any weird talents.  i missed that boat apparently because i don’t even have any normal talents….lol.

  • My favorite school house rock was the the one called…..I’m just a bill.

  • Wow, I have nothing like your talent! Well, I can write backwards so it can be read by looking through the paper from behind, but that’s about it. What good is that? I have a talent that is weird only because most people seem to have a very difficult time of it — I can make almond roca. I can also make other desserts that others find sometimes difficult, like cheesecakes, toffee, cream puffs, Danish pastries and the like, all from scratch. Weirderst thing of all is that I can’t make a good dinner meal.

  • hahaha. i LOVED schoolhouse rock!!!   your handwriting is so pretty… upside down too! =)

  • To the utter amazement of many, I can hang a spoon from almost anywhere on my face, including my temples.  Friends once took a picture of me with 13 spoons hanging from my face.  I think it was thirteen.

Although not to much anymore, I have also been know to stand on my head on tables and just about anywhere unusual.  I did this once in a pub in Germany and got a standing ovation from all those in attendance.

I don’t remember the Constitution cartoon and never would have imagined that a part of the Preamble could have been put to music and sung!11

  • J can tie a cherry stem into a knot. Not sure I have a weird talent…

I remember watching all those cartoons. It is how I learned the constitution and to this day I have to sing it.

  • I vividly remember the one about not drowning your food and how a bill becomes a law. Schoolhouse rock was cool! My weird talent? I don’t know if I have one that’s too weird. I guess that I see even the smallest gestures and movements from everyone around me at all times….why is that a talent? I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t. That’s saved my life more times than I can remember.

  • Notice there is no Schoolhouse Rock for our children on Saturday mornings to look forward to. What a shame! What awesome talents you have! My underarms itch when I get nervous or scared suddently, but I don’t consider that a talent… Have a great day! Tracy

  • RYC: OMGosh!!! I would have been talking to the owner of the restaraurant or the health departmetn!!! That would be totally unacceptable!!!

The pregnant girl is in the 8th grade. So I guess that puts her around 13 or 14 years old.

  • RYC: oh, I was just guessing as to which one you were talking about. Dripping from the Cross also comes from that hymnal and our denomination is Primitive (as in original- holding to the London Confession of the 1600s) Baptist.

  • I had a guy steal my WHOLE post one time….After i brought it to his attention, he got really rude with me…I had to block him.

  • I can military press a person (I have done this with a friend of mine while I was standing on a wobbly cement table for an audience of college freshmen). I can also balance large objects on my chin; for example, there is a forty pound high-back, leather chair in the lounge of my dorm which I balanced for several seconds on my chin (for the same audience of college freshmen).

  • I can’t believe it. Stealing from somebody’s site. I know some people have made it so you can’t left-click, but that doesn’t really stop anybody, what with print-screen, and all that. Maybe you should water-mark your images?

I can write forward with my right and and backward with my left at the same time, creating a sort of ‘mirror image’.

  • That is a beautiful picture!

  • I hate it when people steal things for their own site.  Especially your personal stuff.  I love your pictures.  That one of your nephew is priceless.  I never saw someone kiss his own butt before.

  • My son had to sit and watch every one of the Schoolhouse Rock vidoes linked to your site.

You were very nice to the one that used your photo without permission or creidt. You need an amazing amount of audacity to do such a thing — knowing there are people out there like that is why I slap a copyright logo on my photos before posting.

  • Beth! You have BEAUTIFUL handwriting!!! I take notes in church, too!! I always thought that was odd, but I do it to stay focused as you do and also because I want to be able to reflect back on what I heard. Do you keep all your notes in one notebook or write on whatever is handy? I really, really LOVE your handwriting! Also, that was very big of you to just tell the person that stole your photo that you were glad they liked it and where it was taken. It was wrong of them to do it, but your response was high class.

  • I love Schoolhouse Rock! It needs to be revived.

    My weird talent? I don’t think I have one…

    I am talentless…

  • Nice picture! I wonder if anyone has “borrowed” any of my photos…

  • Too bad that person used your picture without giving you credit.  I guess my weird talent is being able to “click” my big toes. I also pick things up with my toes, like socks, washcloths, pens, etc. I used to practice this just for something to do or if I was too lazy to bend over and pick up a dropped pen or pencil!

  • I used to see Schoolhouse Rock on TV too. Elita will be 16 in Dec. and she loves it!

  • Yep I have found my pictures (photos and paintings) as well as some of the poetry and once an entire blog on other peoples sites… I have mixed feelings… disappointed that they never leave a comment or give me credit for the work, but happy some one likes it enough to use it as their own…

  • My weird talent?  Well, the only one I can think of is that I can spell and pronounce words in languages that I don’t even speak.  (German, for instance.)  I can’t take credit for it, really–I seem to have an inborn talent for spelling.

  • RYC: I remember that post! Thanks, Beth.

  • ROFL that is a weird talent your nephew has!

I  have samples of your weird talent in my address book… everytime I flip by it, it makes me smile. lol

    You know… I don’t know what I do that’s weird… Now I really have to think about this…

  • I can backwards too, I can fold my tongue…thats all I can think of at the moment…….I regards to getting together again it be on a Friday

  • I do not have a weird talent that I can think of. Writing upside down is way too cool

  • I guess my weird talent is that sometimes I just know things… no idea where I picked up the information… but I know it…

  • I don’t really mind people referencing my photos to post as long as they credit where it came from and add a link.  Donkey Guy is good for giving credit back.
    *sparkle

  • My weird talent is PeaHater

  • That is GORGEOUS writing WOW!!

Hmmm…my weird talents….hmmm…….I can hear a dripping tap or leaky toilet if it’s a floor above or below me….I can take a nap practically anywhere….if I have some playdough or clay then I can easily make over a hundred things….

I probably do lots of weird things but I can’t think of more at the moment

  • Good Lord that is a lot of footprints and some fantastic handwriting.

  • I came by yesterday, but alas, I have no interesting talent.

  • Oh! Cool! More fall pictures of PA countryside!

  • I only remember one weird talent.  When I was younger, my parents and I used to square dance. Yep, we were members of the Wheelers and Dealers! (funny how that rang true as a rebellious teenager later in life…LOL!)  Anyway, I could dance the ladies part and the man’s part.   If you’ve never square danced before, the men dance completely opposite from the ladies.  I was the only one who could do that, so whenever we were a man short, guess who got to dance anyway?  It was so much fun.  I really miss it.
Remember School House Rock very well. My fav was the one on Interjections (hey! ouch!)  and Conjunction Junction (what’s your function??).
Did you enter any pics for the book? I submitted about 5. I think they’ll let everyone know if any were chosen by Dec.  Have a good week!

  • that’s amazing!

    wish i could do that

  • Don’t know that I have any weird talents, I am just weird LOL.  Just wanted to say hi.  How in the world do u write upside down?  I am also a little dense LOL.  Hope you are having a great and blessed week.

    Hugs,

    Jackie

  • Ha, ha..great to celebrate the uniqueness and variety of God as seen in each of us! I also write upside-down, a talent I actually only developed in recent years, after years of sharing charts with doctors…partly due to my own ADD/impatient nature. My upside-down writing is not nearly as developed as yours, though…I print; partly because I am recording vital signs and such on the chart. I also can write backward and forward with both hands at the same time. Oh…I can also move my eyes independently, although Noelle (who is a very good belcher, too…her brother taught her) is much better at it.

    ryc: thank you

    blessings…jim

  • I love your weird talent, maybe my definition of weird isn’t the same as yours. I think it would be great to write backwards and upside down etc. I’ve just never tried.

  • I crush beer cans with my tongue. LOL.

  • I have way to many to list here.

I loved that one qoute too….

When my site was not on xanga lock a lot of my pictures of the kids and posts were taken by total strangers….I know quite a few people that have had people steal their stuff…. I also when my site was open had close to 3-4 thousand coming by.    A lot of them though wouldnt sign in though.

    Have a good one.

  • Oh my GAWD, look at that little boy!  Impressive, i must say.

I remember i could touch my the back of my head with the tips of my toes and then i used to bite my toenails ( i know gross) when i was a kid. My parents made it sound like i was doing something amazing by my putting my foot up to my mouth.

Oh sweetie Beth, dont sweat all these weirdos that plague the internet. What can you say … people love you … you’re an artist and a talented little Beth. Don’t let them get you upset.

    jennifer

  • I think I am just weird~~ still searching for the talent.  Tamy

  • That is neat you can write like that.  You handwriting is so neat both ways!!  I take notes in church too and it does help me to pay closer attention.  Some people are amazed at how quickly I can take notes, I hardly miss a beat.
Weird talents… hadn’t really thought of any of my talents as weird… my kids think how I make “concoctions” as they call them.  If I can’t figure out what to make for dinner I will look and see what all is in the cupboards and make things up…. some of them turn out awesome.  Then they ask “now mom, can you remember what you did this time”… I’m really not one to measure… :)

  • Your upside down backwards writing is better than my best!!  Way to go girl!

Alas, I have no weird talent…I am not even sure if I have any talent!  Unless it’s what they call “hidden” talent!  =o>

  • i don’t have any weird talents. you can REALLY write like that? wow. that is quite incredible. honestly, that is the coolest weird talent ever. ryc: thanks for visiting my page..! i’m glad to have new people stop by!
