  • Being Blessed

I looked around me this morning and felt abundantly blessed. Not everything is always wonderful but there are so many things that I am thankful for...

I just froze some Marinara Sauce
    Marinara Sauce
that I made with gorgeous San Marzano tomatoes
    San Marzano Tomatoes
that my husband planted in the garden just for me.
I am thankful for the garden's harvest.

I had a fun night on Wed.I drove to Valley Forge to the Convention Center where my niece is attending a Nursing Conference. She is here from Jackonville Florida. She got us tickets to
Menopause The Musical (read a Review and Another Review).“My Thighs,” sung to the 1961 tune “My Guy,” had the audience laughing almost nonstop.

    I'm having a hot flash
    A tropical hot flash
My personal summer is really a bummer
    I'm having a hot flash.
Comes on like a car crash
    No warning just hot flash
Outside it is nippy, but I'm hot and drippy
    I'm having a hot flash

It was clever, witty and  funny,I enjoyed it !!!! I stayed overnight with her and we talked and talked. It was so good to see her again.
I am thankful for friends and family.

There was a bright moon out last night,it lit up the whole sky. I went to take some pics of the barn in the moon glow and laid in the meadow, it felt so good.It was not damp yet from dew. It smelled like fall's mix  of earth, grass and leaves.I layed on my back to looked at the night sky. The coolness of the creek mingled with the last of the days heat and made the night air balmy.
Below are two pic taken with different settings.

I am thankful for the handiwork of God.
The old Hymns express this so beautifully...

    Holy, Holy, Holy!
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
    All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea;

For The Beauty Of The Earth
For the beauty of the earth, For the glory of the skies,
    For the love which from our birth,Over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise, This our hymn of grateful praise.

All Creatures Of Our God And King
All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and with us sing
    Alleluia, Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam, Thou silver moon with softer gleam,
O praise Him, O praise Him, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

I Sing The Mighty Power Of God
    I
    sing the mighty power of God, That made the mountains rise;
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
    I sing the wisdom that ordained The sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at His command, And all the stars obey.
    I sing the goodness of the Lord, That filled the earth with food;
He formed the creatures with His word, And then pronounced them good.
    Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, Wherever I turn my eye;
If I survey the ground I tread, Or gaze upon the sky!

    This Is My Father’s World
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings The music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world; I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and  seas, His hand the wonders wrought.

    Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

STOP AND TAKE THE TIME TO NOTICE YOUR BLESSINGS TODAY!!!!!

  •  San Marzano are one of my favorite tomatoes, they make the best sauce!!! Yum

Those pictures are wonderful, so much beauty around you.

  • Mmmm, red sauce.

You barn photos reminded me of a great picture I took of the full moon earlier this week, I don't know if I'll post it or not.

ryc: Yes that post is about soccer. I was so pissed when Boxx was ejected - both were bad calls.

  • I could have written the lyrics to that song!!  LOL  Love the pictures, as Always! Hope you have a great weekend. We're putting Pergo flooring down in our livingroom and hallway, so ours will be busy.  Can't wait to get it down though.  It's been a long time coming.  CU later! :)

  • Blessings are all around us .....if only we open our eyes.

  • Love to be reminded of old hymns. Sometimes lyrics I have "forgotten" just come floating back to me unexpectedly. I'm sure it is God bringing them to mind.
Your marinara sauce looks great. How does it differ from spaghetti sauce? Do you think it is cheaper to make it or buy it? I am sure homemade tastes better. We don't garden so I would have to buy the tomatoes.

  • Yummy!!  That looks great Beth!!

Thanks for reminding us to count our blessings!!  God is Good!!

I love the picss too!!  You have such beautiful surroundings!!

  • Menopause looks like a lot of fun. The hymns are great. and would you like to adopt me?

  • I love your after dark walk where you can roll and frolic to your heart's content and nobody knows nor cares.

  • I've always like the old hymns too.  There are some that just never get old.  I really like the movement of new praise and worship music some of the young artists are putting out now too.

  • Some of my blessings just left.  It sure is quiet.

  • I loved the full moon last night as well.  Beautiful.

I know (and love) all of the hymns you've listed intimately.  Except that I've never heard I Sing The Mighty Power of God.

I wonder if someone sings it down here in the South...

  • Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! The moon WAS so amazing here Wednesday night, and the sky was so clear. Great song choices, too! I love the second verse of This Is My Father's World, too. "This is my Father's world. He shines in all that's fair. In the rustling grass I hear Him pass. He speaks to me everywhere." Blessings on your weekend!

  • P.S. Oh! I think that play would have been hilarious! Been there! Done that! LOL!

  • You are a blessing, sweet Beth...

Do you think those tomatoes make better sauce then the romas?

  • I have a half-a-pack of cigarettes left?

    I guess that can count.

  • I do not know who the Waltons are.

I think I only recognize three of those hymns.  My favourite hymn would have to be "It Is Well With My Soul".

  • We sing some of those hymns regularly... I ws humming them as I read! LOL

Being grateful for all the wonderful things around us is vital... we get all caught up in wanting more..

  • Yay!  Those are cool pictures.  Except the tomatoes.  Ewww yucky.

  • I am blessed too. That marinara sauce looks yummy!

    RYC:  I think it's a label...but it's bigger than the underwear!

  • I love old hymns! I am blessed with so much... one of my blessings is YOU! If there is one thing that I got from xanga that I will always want to keep it is you as a friend! It sounds like you had a wonderful walk last night. I might have to go lay down and enjoy the moon tonight...

  • I'm still here and i still luv ya--i just am at a point that if i read everyone--its enough - so hard to come up w/ a decent comment ne more...

oh and --no more greenhouse - i'm back in edumachashun proper - now i WILL have to come visit if i want some green...

  • The only thing that is a blessing right this second, Beth, is looking at your harvest, damnit!

Unfortunately today is not a dandiful day.  Oh well there is always tomorrow. Pray.

  • hello, hey that menopause thing looks right up my alley

  • I just love the thought that that same moon was over our home on that Eve. too.  We sure enjoyed looking and awing over it also.  It seems to connect us all even though we are so far away and  unfamiliar:)

  • That's why I closed off my 1812 topic and played some nice sweet Rain on the Roof.  I needed some uncomplicated innocence.  I knew that you'd recognize the group.

  • Gee, I'm forgetting the words to "This is my father's world" and danish doll remembered the words that I thought fitted...

Smaller tomatoes take longer to pick but MacDonalds and others are using them in the salads so that there is no slicing necessary to prepare them to be in salads. Now at least I know what San Marzano tomatoes look like....

I wonder if you would take a bath in a bathtub pictured at my blog.....?

  • That sauce looks delicious, and that musical sounds very funny!

RYC: I have all kinds of fabric. I'm not sure what I'll make first ~ so many choices! I had been using my mother in law's sewing machine. Then, I was given one for Christmas, but it broke.   Now, I'm finally getting another one!

  • Aww... I spent the first 19.5 years of my life in Jax!    I miss it so much!  I'm a big city girl...lol.

Yeah, the moon shine was great last night and tonight!  I was like "eeewww" and "ahhhh" at the smallish clouds passing the moon.  I just wanted to stay out there and watch it but we were in the car and it was kinda chilly then too.  I think it was like 53 or something here.  Did you see the pics that I got?  They aren't as impressive as yours though.

  • I would love your sauce, not so much the musical, but certainly the time spend you with your niece.

Reading those hymns reminded me many of the old hymns were written as a teaching tool. But it was done with great care thus producing their richness.

    God bless!

  • ryc . . . Yes!  I bought the stuff!  It's Faberge Organics Shampoo . . . and I told two friends and they laughed at me and laughed at me and so on and so on.

  • I like the hymn to the Creation .
But for the potatoes I can say your husband helped God ! What a wonder .

    Love
    Michel

ps : I had a laugh at reading the Menopause !!

  • tomato sauce?  Now all we need is some homemade pasta and we are good to go!

I too am often reminded of and amazed by the creativity of the Maker's hand.

  • With what my poor wife is currently going through I can related to the "Hot Flash" song....but not as much as she might...

  • It's too bad we don't live closer.  I would love to be able to take a walk and take pictures with you.  I like the first barn shot the best.

Menopause the Musical sounded hilarious!  T would have loved it!
    *sparkle

  • Hi Beth,

That sauce looks so good, all I need now is some Italian bread!! Thank you for putting this entry on today! I really needed that!! I have a phone interview with Medquist this morning at 11:15 am.  I am hoping I get the job as they are already doing some of our work.

I have been trying to remember The Lord's blessings since losing my job. If I had lost it before this summer Elita and I would not have been able to go to El Salvador on that missions trip. She would not have gone to Band Camp. I know I was blessed to have a job for 17 years when others are constantly being laid off.

I remember those hymns but we have not song some in a long time as our music director leans to the more contemporay music now. We have some that are a blend of old and new but the old ones really make you grateful and thankful if you really listen to the words as you sing them.

Hope you have a great weekend!!

  • i am thankful every day for my truly blest life.  it could only be better with some of that marinara sauce !

  • I was out around 5 am this morning and the sky was vivid bright with the stars and the moon still shone as well, really neat, I guess I was glad the dog had to go to the bathroom and woke me up for that

  • Got any spare pickles?

  • Isn't it nice to go to the theater once in awhile? And what a whimsical choice: a menopause musical ! I wish I was at the theater with you gals too!
    God Bless you!

  • Saw that musical last year in Atlanta with some girl friends.  Laughed so hard we cried.  Could have done without that pink microphone, though...yuk.

  • ryc~I giggled my way through those jokes.  I think it was nervous giggles anticipating the future !!!

The last one reminds me of my mom Jeane and her friend Jeanie.  My mom is going to be 82 and Jeanie is going to be 89 and they laugh alot.  They would love that joke.

I think your MIL in a golf cart is classic !  Do you think she'll get one ?

  • I think you beat all the rest of the ladies in saying how good looking he was.

  • I made some meat sauce tonight out of the last of the garden tomatoes. It is so yummy. Wonderful old hymns. Judi

  • That Menopause Musical verse was funny, but not so funny to live through. Love the barn pics. That moon was beautiful Wednesday night here too. I only knew three of those songs, but the words are beautiful. God is Good all the time.

  • So you enjoyed "Menno-Pause," eh?  Good.

You know, as I was leaving on Wednesday afternoon, I realized that I had stood there talking to you for an hour while you worked on tomatoes and had never offered to help.  I never even thought of it!  I feel like such a heel.

  • I have found that most days I don't have to look too hard to find many blessings, blessings upon blessings!

  • Sounds like you are totally ready for Thanksgiving, all your blessings listed in a neat row. Awesome! A good reminder for us all.

I love the old hymns -- I used to sing them in my Grandparent's church and still remember a lot of the words. Worship choruses are nice, but I miss singing the hymns.

  • I also like the hymn "Who?" I'll get you the lyrics someday here soon...

  • Girl, I know exactly what you're talking about.  Last night I told my girlfriend on the phone that sometimes I could just cry with gratitude at how very blessed I am, and how loved I feel by God.  He has done great things for me, and small things, too.  And I try to remember that it all comes from His benevolent hand.  I love all the old hymns.  My grandmother played organ and piano in her church for about 40 years.  I think of autumn whenever I hear For the Beauty of the Earth...I'm not sure why.  And I love Great is Thy Faithfulness.  It always cheers me and fills me with hope.

Menopause, the Musical is such a stitch!  I saw it with girlfriends in Detroit, and later with my old college roomies in Las Vegas.  It makes you laugh till tears run down your face and your sides hurt!

Beautiful pics.  We had fresh zucchini cooked in our homegrown tomatoes yesterday.  Like a mouthful of sunshine!

  • Some of my favorite hymns Yes I too am grateful and thankful

  • that pic with the truck and the orange is fake right??Cause that's just freaky!!!!
