  • I Hate Flies!!



    The Fly

    The only good thing that I know of that came from a fly is that they were(still are?) used to clean wounds. Fly larvae kill bacteria and eat dead flesh while leaving healthy tissues intact. Then they are removed from the wound.

    Here is an old post that I was reminded of it because there were two relentless flies pesting me,I could not find the fly swatter but they were enough to motivate me to get up and look for it,they are now deceased.

    There are so many pesky flies bugging me  that I look like I have Tourettes or
    Alien Hand Syndrome when I shake to get  to get them off of me!

    When I was little,flies use to sit by the hundreds on our screen door just waiting to get in. We would run around like maniacs chasing them with the fly swatter. Sometimes we were paid a penny a for each dead fly. We would swat 15 which was enough to go get a soda. My mom hated flies so much that she was merciless when it came to killing them. We would be quietly reading or innocently sleeping and  if a fly landed on us she went after it with a vengeance.I remember once,when I was about nine we were  'camping' in the living room and I had a rude awakening with a 'SLAP' right on my leg .
    I woke up and said "HEY!!!!" ...all she said was "fly" .

  • All the lizzards here in tampa Florida!  I have only seen 1 mosquito but there were tons in Houston.  I really dont care too much for bugs.

  • I had a fly buzzing my head in bed the other night...went & got flyswatter & the darn fly went into the witness protection progarm.....until I turned the light out, then he came after me again!  Took me an hour to finally smack him!

  • WOW! I made it to the top five. Flies are pesky to be sure. But the worse thing I can think of was as a camp counselor sleeping out under the stars and to hear the buzz of a mosquito in your ears....now that is annoying. Even though it was hot, I used to cover my head.

  • In the Valley we use flyswatters made of leather, i.e. like from earlier days. Can you possibly even imagine what it must have been like before screens in doors and windows? Hard to imagine.

  • OMG, I have to have one of those newfangled fly swatters. I have the old fashioned ones.

    Flies make me crazy. It seems I just kill one (I show no mercy whatsoever) and 3-5 more appear from nowhere. They make me crazy! Maybe I need to get a cat. My dogs certainly aren't helping.

    I don't like bugs in general, but flies absolutely make me NUTS!

  • I don't think we have had as many flies as usual this year.  Maybe the cold snap we had in the spring killed some of them off as well as my flowers, which means it was almost worth it!  Flies are just about the buggiest of bugs.  Arrogant with their peskiness, I think.

    He was like a father to me.
    That's one of the reasons I stopped going to school.
    Because I wasn't ready to go back and face it.
    Now I'm ready, and I'm not allowed.
    I hate it. :(

  • Oh I am so with you on this, Beth.... I hate flies... I spend more time trying to swat them, than I would want to admit... But they do have a purpose, and even if it is only to annoy us, they do their best, lol... take care!

  • Mosquitoes... buzzing around your ears just as you turn your light out and lay your head on the pillow and you hear high pitched eeeee ... kind of like a bomb about to strike. The next morning ... red bumps. This is life in Louisiana.

  • Ohh those old days I remember when I was younger my folks would pay me 5 cents per flies..  Now the most that bugs me is the gnats and mosquitoes..  Those are very annoy and itching..

  • We have owned all sorts of novelty fly swatters - the one that worked the best was a flip flop.  I am so grossed out by flies.

  • The only people around here who have flies are those folks who own horses......or live near those who do.  We used to live in the Midwest,,,,,,and I have vivid memories of the little buggers!

  • That is the main reason I don't like eating outdoors or camping. I just can't stand to have anything buzzing around my head and my food!  Nasty critters!

  • The guitar fly swaters are very cute.  Sorry that I often write in Vietnamese.  Most of the times it was just a trivial thought and I was too lazy to write in English. The post I wrote was just an account about me get caught in the storm while trying to get home.

  • I have a plain green one like the 1st picture. I remember flypaper hanging in our house. It was really yucky looking. Don't know if they still make it or not. If you aim a little way away from the fly you will almost always kill it. Never aim directly at it.

    What gets on my last nerve? If it is people, lack of manners, like please and thank you.

    Anything else, loud music that shakes my car or house. Will be a new generation of deaf people.

  • Mosquitos drive me CRAZY when they buzz around my ear after we have turned out the light and I'm trying to get to sleep!  I have to turn the light back on till it has been searched out and destroyed ~ otherwise, I just lay there waiting on it to strike again ~ ugh ~ they make me so frustrated!!

  • Great post! Perfect timing too.The flies are awful right now. I went to bed the other night and there were six of them buzzing around my head.Who knows how they get in but they do. We have a tree out front that in the spring has little white flowers that look like snow and then in the summer it drops these little round dark berries.I have no idea what it is but the flies love these berries. WHen you walk through the yard (which we must just to get to the cars) all these flies swarm up buzzing around your ankles. Thousands of them. I'm seriously considering getting rid of this tree. Although it is very pretty I can't stand the fly thing going on.

  • flies are definitely on my top ten list of annoying things. i can usually trust divine wisdom, but the purpose for flies (whatever it may be) is almost too much of a stretch for me....

  • When we were at the amusement park on Saturday, it was the bees that were annoying. RYC: The rest of the family didn't want to lose Shelly either, as it really was my cousin who was the jerk in this divorce. The girls have been inseparable since they've been little, and the only bad thing is that we live about an hour and a half a way from them. My aunt and uncle have a cottage about 45 minutes away from us, and that's when the girls would spend so much of their time together in the summer. Now with my cousin being divorced, he doesn't bring his daughter to the lake as often, and my Hannah sits there bored to tears. So we make sleep-over dates, and birthday party dates, and amusement park dates with Shelly, because that's the only way it's gonna happen.

  • Updates are on the way -- maybe on Friday, maybe sooner.  First off is a bit of family medical news, followed by some vacation pics I haven't even gotten developed yet.

  • We once moved into a house in the country, where the folks who lived there before us had raised cows.  Of course, they had to have the doors wide open when they moved out, and when we moved in, and so we had THOUSANDS of flies in the house.  I am not a fly lover, either!!!  In the end, we went through a settling in period where we had (after the flies) crickets, spiders, ants, and snakes, and I was pretty sure that we were going through the seven plagues all over again!!  In the end, we prevailed.  Because of the snakes, we did not have mice, which I dislike even more than flies!!!  Life in the country is not as boring as some folks assume!!  PS I love the the weeping angel here.  Very beautiful!
