  • Amazing Grace

I am behind on posting for
    Al_Son's  Mz Xanga Pageant...
    I did an entry on
Beauty and one on Generosity and Dessert.
I am combining the Music and Grace posts because the song 'Amazing Grace' best defines grace in my life. It is a beautiful song that stirs the soul like no other song.I also like the story of the writer of this hymn
    John Newton,

By Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and Juliaette Hamilton
at the Church of Today in Detroit

By Judy Collins and The Harlem Boys Choir

    By The Great Mahalia Jackson

    By Wintley Phipps

I was trying to mix clips from these videos to make a compilation, but my video skills are limited.so I posted all the ones that I wanted to use.

I do not expect that everyone can watch all of these like Miguel did(Bless him!!!) but if you do ,which one do you like the best?

Edit: I added one for me, I play a mandolin it is my favorite instrument.

  • The first time I saw Wintley Phipps do this on stage shook me to my soul. I have yet to hear this song and not think about the man who wrote the words or the slaves that gave us the tune. VERY MOVING!!!

  • I love Mahalia Jackson!  Don't you sleep at all woman!!!

  • Hey! Thanks for the comment and the invite! The emo girl was pretty funny, even though she seemed a little repetitive

  • His grace is sufficient. Thank you Lord for the Cross...

  • It took forever to watch these...but I could have been first. Very moving. I learned something new today. Thanks for sharing that Beth.

  • I have heard a few of them. Did you finish that corn yet/

  • My speakers are still so messed up that I can't hear anything!

  • I liked all of them. But I liked the last one with Whitney whatever. The lesson behind it and the history and presentation was very moving. But for the song alone, I like the way  that Mahalia Jackson sang it.

  • Cool................excellent...........hugs to you.......I missed your post.

  • My favorite was the Phipps video!

  • That was awesome hearing Aerosmith sing Amazing Grace.

  • I think we have a lot of things in common! Most importantly...Christ our Savior!
But I also LOVE old movies, Cary Grant is one of my favorites! And The Philadelphia Story is the best! And Chariots of Fire, the soundtrack is beautiful! My Dad loves the opening song so much he begged me to get the sheet music to play on the piano for him!

  • I hope you werent telling secrets while processing the corn, cause ya know that the corn has ears!!!! hehehehehe..hope ya got it all done..have a great one there Beth

  • I liked them all...  I love to hear different renditions of songs.  Nearly everyone has something to bring to the song.  Reminds me I not to take grace for granted...

  • I used to like this song but it and the rainbow have been stolen by the world.

  • I liked them all but you should here my Lemon Bassett Sadie howl and now that she is blind and has glaucoma(on drops)in the eye that is left"-the blind and now i see" is really a sad howl. I don't think she knows she's blind though since she is all nose.

  • I like Mahalia Jackson but I don't remember it being that slow.

  • Yeah. The wax must have been some hybrid (or cheap) :) wax, 'Cause it came right out.
And hello. I hope to stop in at the greenhouse sometime again to see what you's got going.

    Matt

  • Wintley Phipps.

  • Hi dear how are you?  I've missed you sorry I have not been by in a while not up to par as of late.  I'll be better and stop by more ofter :D

  • That song never gets old.  I sat here and listened as chills ran up and down my arms.  Dan asked me if I was crying yet.  I love that we serve such a mighty God who is full of Grace.

  • I can't watch them just now, it's a beautiful song though of course.

Thanks for you comment on the photos!

  • i like the third one, something about her emotion show through it.

  • Naw, I think I can find it on my own. I'll just sniff my way to your house via the corn and salsa!

  • Gonna have to go with the Steven Tyler video.  I just think he is fantastic.

  • good morning sweet beth!

  • Mahalia Jackson was way too slow for me . . . I liked Steven Tyler's redention, especially w/Juliaette Hamilton's pipes in there.  Wow!  Whitley Phipps, of course, is wonderful.  I enjoyed his introduction and background on the song . . . great voice . . . but still liked Steven Tyler w/Juliaette Hamilton better.

  • i love that song!

*chants* EAT SALSA come north, GUACAMOLE come north, AND FRESH TOMATOES come north

that was a subliminal message, brought to you by TUDE!!!!!

  • My favorite rendition of Amazing Grace is by The Pipes and Drums and Military Band of the ROYAL SCOTS DRAGOON GUARDS.

It's from our collection of music and was played at my father's memorial service.

ryc~it's crazy !!  It took me 3 x before I read your comment correctly !!

  • Closely followed by Steven Tyler and Juliette Hamilton, my favorite is Wintley Phipps. Wow. Talk about saving the best for last...

  • OK, I watched them all and I'd have to say Wintley Phipps, for sure! Amazing, soulful voice and a great story to go along with it. Hope that helps.

  • If hearing Wintley Phipps cry it from his soul don't move ya~~ then I don't know what will.  Tamy

  • Hey there, shouldn't you be husking corn or something??

  • Anyone singing that is my favorite! And you.

  • Do you freeze the corn on the cob or cut it off.  We find it is better cut off the cob but is so much work.....

  • I have no sound at work so will be back later to listen.

  • Take all the good things everybody else said and wrap them up in one comment... that would be my comment.

  • I have to go with Wintley Phipps. His spirit is awesome.

  • You bet. After they messed up my order the first time, it took every ounce of Christian kindness in me not to go super, crazy, psycho on them over the phone. What do you think of those chickens? Look pretty scared. Now when they see her coming, they all run down to the woods. Hehehe. Poor, poor chickens. But not the rooster. He is a dummy-head.

  • This is the only Amazing Grace to me! It is what I grew up on and, only a certain kind of voice can really move me with this song. Every time that I hear Amazing Grace, I wait for the bump, bump, bump that only occurs in this version. Let me know what you think.

  • Here it is. Sorry, didn't mean to take up three posts!
    Elvis Presley's Amazing Grace

  • The mandolin, very unique instrument.
    *sparkle

  • oh precious is the flow that makes me white as snow! no other fount I know nothing but the blood of Jesus!!

Aerosmith sang Amazing Grace?!?!? Wait a minute, is he a Christian too? Where have I been all this time??

  • The second to the last one for me.

Glad you liked the Olive Garden dressing.

Your so sweet and complimented you

on you comment on the other site.

  • i like the instument one and the one telling about the slave scale come request free music at my site :)

  • Oooh,  I'm gonna love this.  I will listen to it tonight at home.  Thanks for posting this!

  • I liked Tyler.  Judy Collins is sweet.  Mahalia Jackson had me weeping.  I've always like the words, "and grace will lead me home", but I've never heard them like I did when she was singing!  Wow.

I'm not a trained musician, but I've been around it my whole life and studied it as a hobby, but I've never heard of the slaves' scale.  Fascinating.  Loved it.  Loved Phipps story and voice.  Very good.  But give me Mahalia - she was singing that song straight to my spirit.  Beautiful.

  • Steven Tyler singing Amazing Grace.  Now THAT is amazing.  And it was better than I thought it would be!

  • I think the Wintley Phipps was my favorite.  I could take or leave the accompaniment, but WOW, what a voice.  I liked the Steven Tyler and Juliette Hamilton one too.  I love mandolin.  My friend's hubby plays one on Sunday mornings at our church sometimes.
