What's your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is sitting at the table with my mom at night,
with the lights down low,
her work done and her feet propped up on a kitchen chair
listening to hymns on the radioas the music that filled the air. Sometimes she would sing harmony, I loved that best of all.
She gave us (five kids) a bedtime snack,
like graham crackers or applesauce. We would sit and eat it together.
I would linger after the snack because I loved the feel of resting there with her.I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

Sweet Memory.I saw that this is a new xanga feature, nicely done!
Wow. That memory makes me want to start that tradition with my little one.
Way cool memory...............hugs.
I wanted to branch out and read new blogs. Yours was the first one that I came to... so no pressure or anything, but it had better be worth my time to read it everyday. Just kidding
Sometimes at church when I was little and got tired, Mom would let my put my head on her lap and she would play with my hair. I loved that. I also liked it when we would all sing in the car when we were going somewhere. I love your memory.
That is so sweet. I smile when I think of my mom cooking in the kitchen. And she listens to the radio too.
Such a wonderful memory
You have such wonderful memories of tomes with your mother. How blessed!
That sounds lovely. My most favorite childhood memories also involve family.
I don't have a favorite, but one memory that does come to mind is sitting on the covered front porch during a summer night thunderstorm. As a kid, I loved thunderstorms... still do.
I don't have one favorite either but I loved rollerskating in the neighborhood with friends. And watching Tom and Jerry after school and eating illicit snacks before my parents got home!

very nice
Sitting on the back porch of my Grandparents house with my grandfather, listening to him tell me about whales... so long ago. It's the only real memory I have of him. I was 7 when he passed
I might have a favourite, but I can't remember. I can't remember my childhood.
playing when it got dark and knowing I should go in the house but wanting to enjoy the pitter patter of my barefeet on the walkway.
You could only pick one? I had so many happy and wonderful memories as a kid. How would I only pick one?! That is an unfair thing to ask of me. I want to list about 43 or something.
i am still in childhood....
oh cool...look how my profile picture is framed all neat and tidy. i like that.
Thanks for stopping by...and for sharing your memory!
Don't really have a favorite. I like yours though. I always liked being able to read. It was like leaving where I was and sometimes if the book was really good, not wanting to come back! LOL!
That sounds like a great memory! My favorite was always hunting or fishingwith my Pop... Just sitting in the woods with him.
ryc: It is cool to have frontpage... but... why is it that the ones that I think are GREAT never make it? I mean that was a fun one... but by no means my favorite and I didn't think it was even half as good as say the bridge... Or even one of the barns...Do you know what I mean?
I should shut up and just enjoy seeing a picture of mine huh... I think I'll do that now.
I have so many but one of my favorite memories is catching fireflies with my sister and brothers.
The trip photos are pretty spectacular.
Hmmmm...I remember playing for hours in the back yard in the dirt...the joy that my Dad coming home from a business trip would bring...the simple pleasure of my Mom making chocolate milk and toast for us while we watched Saturday morning cartoons. Drying ourselves off and getting warm in front of the oven after our baths. Dragging our mattresses into our parents bedroom to sleep on the floor when it was too hot as they were the only ones with AC in their room...my Mom's wonderful homemade spaghetti sauce which we would sample in the afternoon on Italian bread for a snack...my Dad's awesome fudge which he made and how we would fight to lick the pan and the spoon (sadly, the recipe left with him)...fresh ice tea with lemons or limes - I have yet to ever have iced tea as good as what we made back then...not sure why. Getting my weekly allowance and going up to the local news stand to get a Cherry Coke (a TRUE cherry coke!!) or root beer in a frosted mug and stocking up on my favorite trading cards and getting the latest edition of MAD magazine.
Obviously I am hard pressed to come up with just one memory...perhaps above all else, the security and safety I always felt at home as a young child...
PS: I should have had: the security and safety and absolutely care free life I had at home as a young child. I was truly free to be a child.
ryc . . . I'm looking to meeting you too . . . I'll be in light blue short sleeves top and black jeans . . . and giving you a run for your money.
oh, short hair, red laptop shoulder slung bag . . . etc.
I have so many good memories of my childhood ~ hard to pick a favorite ~ we had so much fun outdoors, playing in the pasture and creek ~
Hey, I just got back from vacation and saw your invite. Sorry it took so long to accept.
My favorite childhood memory? We had this.. cardboard play house my mom ordered us. My sisters and I would play in there.. and my mom would write us letters and put them in the mail slot. I love the smell of cardboard to this day.
I think my favorite childhood memory was the first time I ever saw snow. It was in Frankfurt, Germany. My mom, dad, and I were sitting on the balcony. I thought the stars were falling out of the sky and I wanted to catch them.
Favorite childhood memory?!? Oh! That must be Christmas Eve at Grandpa's house! Grandpa would read "The Night Before Christmas"... The radio would announce Santa sleigh sightings... Homemade cookies and milk... Tinsel on the Christmas Tree with those old 8-light strands where if one went out the whole strand went out... Snow out on the ground... The smell of Grandpas pipe... All the family near by... Maybe playing Candyland... Oh... Yes... One of the best memories... Years and years ago...
Love picturing that memory.... sweet.... one of my favorite memories is when I would stay at my grandmother's house... I would sleep in the extra bed in my great grandma's room, and she would rise in the wee hours of the morning, sometimes it wasn't light yet, and start saying her prayers... that woman pryed for every family member and friend that passed away... she had a stack of those prayer cards from the funeral at least and inch and a half thick! Then she'd say her regular prayers!
Oh wow, that memory makes ME feel all happy inside.
You are a very blessed woman, growing up so safe and secure.
Hugs,
L
Graham crackers and milk! We would dip them in a bowl of milk and try to eat it before it fell back into the bowl!
I have so many favorite childhood memories... remember fold ups? Did you ever have a butter and sugar one... it's a wonder we didn't die from heart failure immediately upon eating one.
Hugs, Tricia
My memories flood like a spring thaw: my Mother stroking my forehead at days' end, holding my Father's hand, putting up the Christmas tree...and on and on. RYC: You are always so sweet and encouraging. Thank you for that, what a loving person you are.
One of my favorites was playing hide and seek with my brothers, sisters and dad in the cementary.
oh i have so many but one of my favorites would have to be when i used to color rocks and sell them. i was never allowed to have paint, not even water colors, so i would use crayolas and markers. it was amazing that i even had markers, and even then, i got them as a gift from my godfather who worked at zellerbach, and boy he would bring me tons and tons of neat school stuff and paper galore! i made money that summer and i was so happy to have cash in hand to go to this little hole in the wall, wannabe, malt shop.

Oh! Look! You framed Spazzzz! Somebody had to do it!
I love Beach vacations.
One of my favorite memories involves the radio. When I was young I would spend the summer nights sleeping on the glider on the porch and I would have my little 9 transistor radio with me and listen to Joe Nuxhall call the Cincinnati Reds games. It was a great time
excellent memory. Thank you for sharing. mine would be watching old movies after the 11:00 news on Friday nights with my dad. This was before cable of course.
i love singing harmonies....makes the music sound so neat
great memory! have a great day beth!!!!!!
Great memory. I have two. One of sitting on the foot of my dad's recliner while he played a card game with me teaching me my numbers and my mom letting me stand behind her on the couch putting rollers in her long hair. Was great thinking of this! Thanks!

man, that makes me want graham crackers and milk now.
I was wondering though, what made you choose your user name on Xanga? The reason I ask is that I was in a drama team at church with that name, and seeing it here reminded me of how fun it was...
...the days with my whole families.........dinner.........big big dinner, i cant remember what we ate that day,but i can really remember the happiness...........
Thanks for caring. Your childhood memory is very nice. My mom always sings to me and always comes with me downstairs to get a midnight snack, because sometimes I get scared of the dark.
Have a great day.

I love passing on my memories to my daughter of when I was little/younger and the things I'd do. We've go memories from our Great great grandpa floating around in the family and it's wonderful! Feels like we know him, even though we've never met him.
Happy Weekend!
I remember visiting your blog! You are the person who hung out with friends you met on Xanga!
Thank you for visiting my blog. I think we enjoy the same type of things as children. Both of us have vivid memories of resting, relaxing, having a nice and quiet time with our parents.
I love graham crackers to this day.
Hugs, Tricia

Hey there lady! Thanks for stopping by the RnBoW Spot! Good to see you there!
My favorite memory....
Wow...there are lots...
but one is...
Eating Blackberries my Mamaw picked from the bushes in her backyard!
She would put them in a bowl & sprinkle sugar over them then put the bowl in the 'fridge until they were cold and sweet!
I couldn't sing harmony if you paid me!
Hi Beth! That is a wonderful memory. It choked me up because I know how sweet and wonderful your Mom is and how much you love her! I can just see you with her ... it's truly a special memory and one that will live in your heart forever!
RYC: Your comments were too funny!! Yeah, it's a shame that it had to rain last night because my kids went to the carnival and it got rained out .. I was looking forward to some peace and quiet!!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
you! Alicia
I cannot answer to this question because I have too much good childhood memories , Beth . I had a golden childhood but that has been cut brusquely
Love
Michel
My grandparents lived right beside the railway.Three or Four times in one night the Trains would whistle outside my bedroom window, before they crossed the road that intersected the tracks. Interupting the silence of sleep. I would stumble from my bed and stand tiptoed on the register, eyes barely peering over the ledge. To catch a glimpse of magic as it rumbled past my little corner of the world in the dead of night.
I'm not sure what mine is right off the top of my head, but I do have a lot of good ones that I can think of right now.
If I had favorite childhood memories I wouldn't be Blackheartedforce
that's a great memory Beth! Hope the weekend is going great!
Tim

Family memories, they are the best.
Thanks for the comment. Fenwick is a lot of fun.
I like your post. I don't know what I'd do without my mom. =)
I also grew up in a family of five. Well, seven, if you count my parents. One of my favorite memories is when my brother taught me how to ride a bike. He also taught me how to multiply, dance, tie my shoes, skate, and pretty much everything else I've ever learned in life. I love my brother. Pretty much all of my best memories are with him.
I like your screen name.
Reguarding your picture comment: Thanks!
Ruff! Woof! pant! pant! ***licks nose*** lick! lick!
For me....mum...
It maybe the first time on plane*
Aw, that's adorable. I loved (and still do) spending time with my mom. I think one of my favorite childhood memories is at when my mom, sister and I would drive around town looking at all the Christmas lights on Christmas Eve.
