    A burp — sometimes called a belch — is nothing but gas. When you eat or drink, you don't just swallow food or liquid. You also swallow air at the same time. The air we breathe contains gases, like nitrogen (say: ny-truh-jen) and oxygen (say: ahk-sih-jen).

    Sometimes when you swallow these gases, they need to get out. That's where burping comes in! Extra gas is forced out of the stomach, up through the esophagus (say: ih-sah-fuh-gus, the tube for food that connects the back of the throat to the stomach), and out of the mouth as a burp.

  • i burp naturally..especially since i had my surgery, that is all I do...but i am the only one in my family who can't fake or make myself  burp....i'm like a baby, mine need patted out lol

  • If I'm really thirsty and I drink a soda in like ten seconds, I have earth shattering burps that I force out. I've been complimented many times. Too funny Beth. That was a good post.

  • RYC: Work. It's odd really (though hardly worth mention on your Wednesday spot ). Back in November when I was bored out of my skull I wanted to quit because I felt unproductive. Now I'm so busy I can barely keep up with the case load (and that's not even mentioning the paperwork!). To tell you the truth, I've been looking around to see what else is available -even put out a few resumes but so far nothing has panned out.

    I've been praying for you and your 'Xanga addiction'.  It was actually good (in a funny kind of way) to not see a post from you yesterday.  I am wondering about where you decided to do water aerobics?  Love ya.  I can't or don't burp much.  But Becky is a champion.  I don't fart much, either.  Should I try to cultivate those skills?  I'm wondering again about you and Motivated Moms (the group that teaches English to immigrants in Reading)  For some reason, you are one of the prople that comes to mind when I think of the need for tutors.  Talk to Susan or send me a message if you might be interested.

  • I cannot belch, I can't even make myself burp on cue. It used to bother me when I was younger because my whole family could, but if I tried, it would make me gag. I usually don't have a problem with it coming out the other end though. haha! :)

  • I burp frequently... but nothing impressive unless I'm drinking. As I don't drink any more (alcohal that is) my belches are miniscule... well, except for those that seem to erupt out of nowhere and catch me off guard.

    Now, given my bouts of colitis flair ups, that end works fine... I can make the cats and dogs make funny faces and run from the room.!

  • Awesome music--thanks for sharing! Donkey definitely holds the title for burping in this household. If our son (who learned well from his Daddy, who learned well from HIS Daddy) were still living here or if Grandpa was still with us, he might have some serious competition, but I just never felt the need to hone that skill (My Mom was DingDong on steroids about stuff like that) & it appears our daughter decided with me. On the other matter, though, there is not such a clear distinction.....
    ryc: I was sort of hoping that, too, but apparently there is no rest for the wicked, Moms, church deacons, food pantry volunteers or MK consultants! Last week we were scrambling to get everyone together to celebrate our son's birthday & I STILL haven't taken care of his gift yet, yesterday was our pantry inspection (postponed twice already by holiday closures & wacky weather) with the local food bank agency rep, tomorrow I have to sacrifice several hours to attend one of their civil rights/safe food handling classes to remain eligible to use their services while I prep for a big MK Valentine Glamour clinic that same evening. Tax & inventory issues are also looming on the horizon....

  • Sadly yes. I am a good belcher/burper. I can make most men turn red in the face and go all bashful at the thunderous belch rolling off my sweet and almost innocent looking lips. Its quite funny the few times I've ripped out when I was sure no one was around, then someone was like "WAS THAT YOU!!?" Whoops, sorry. Hope your having a good hump day today! - Bek

  • Well... the house, last I heard, is being purchased by someone else in its' rehabbed state from the current owner who is fixing it to her specifications.  Which is dissappointing on one hand, and a relief on the other! 

    And thanks   I think everyone who knows me knows that about me... but sometimes I wonder if there is a match out there for me in that regard...

  • I've impressed my children with a few burps, however, I have to take a great swig of Dr. Pepper in order to produce one.  I'm not like my sister who could burp on cue whenever, wherever. 

    I'm finally trying to make some rounds, I don't want you all to think I've forgotten about you.  :)

    ryc - yes, Settlers of Catan! I love that game, play it constantly on games.asobrain.com when i can't play it with people. My favorite version is probably Starfarers, our kids' fav, too - they have more fun building their spaceships and seeing who can build the most boosters!

    Hey sweet Beth .. thank you for your lovely comment about my dimples.  I have not had a compliment on those in a loooooong time ... when I was in grade school, I hated them; one of my teachers told me that she wished she had them.  That made me feel a little better .. now I don't even think about it, but, it's nice to get that compliment.. so thanks!

    Yeah, my Internet Provider shut down for about 4 days working on a switch over of companies, so no internet ... it was a nice break, but, I gotta tell ya, I felt lost without it... it's become a part of technology that is becoming more and more of a necessity.  My mother does not have internet, but she is constantly calling me and asking me to look stuff up for her.  Who would have thought 10-15 years ago?  Wow!

    And I do love to chat with the friends I have made on here .. and meet in person.. that has been a lot of fun!  Now we have Heart Beat and W.O.W and fixin' to have this conference in March to meet everyone .. I just never dreamed ... anyway, I am careful not to make this my whole life ... I'm sure your subs are as long as mine.. can't possibly talk to everyone everyday ...

    Anywho ... I'm with ya girl ...

    This belching blog .. lol!  Lord, Beth!  You are one crazy chick!  I'm not much of a belcher (not a loud one).  But, I laugh my pants off when there's a contest or something like this .. I like listening to it .. does that make me strange? ha!

  • Funny topic.... lol.... my kids say I belch louder than my brother, which is trophy material... but hey , if you're gonna do something, do it well, eh?? While I  was pregnant, it was a constant thing, aren't our bodies wonderful??!! I think it's funny, when my 6 mo old burps, I say "Good girl," but if it's my 10 yr old I say "UGH!"  How are the water aerobics going?? I reallly enjoyed doing that awhile back....it's so good for the soul to get out and try new avenues, broaden your horizons.... Have a great day!!
